I'm very excited about entering this challange, cuz i can get a chance to work on something that i wanted to do for quite al while now.

Also i've been working as a modeler in the industry a few years , and it's been a long time since i worked out of my own concepts. shame on me..

Well, the concept i'm gonna work on was acatually something i started when i was about 16 y/o. and i drew it on the wall in my room. it ended out like this...

Nice to have an old concept behind. I always thought that these challenges can help us to create pictures we all had, one day in our dreams or head or sheet of paper or...wall...
have fun Rafi !

Here's a new version of this tiger, done in photoshop this time. and also an actual concept this time...
i believe i'll add some more details as i go in to it, like tears in the cloths and maybe a print on the t-shirt. as you may have guessed he's into rock, and he can rock hard!! hehe :)

As cliche and obvious as it sounds, I can't picture him singing anything but "Eye of the Tiger" XD

Sketch looks good ^_^ Looking forward to seeing more.

thanks for the replies! glad you like it.

xioncajou - good question about the sound and music. I allready took care of that...
I'm gonna have a good friend of mine, who's a center piece of 2 awesome rock bands in Israel :buttrock:, create an original track for me. He recently asked me to model a character for a new video for his band, so i asked this favour in exchange .
I'm really excited about it.

AtomAndBrad - LOL. like you said... total cliche. I guess i'll have to surprise you. ;)

Here's a rough model of the character. it's mainly for bringing it into 3d and playing with it a bit to see if the proportions work. just a fast sketch before i go in deeper.

I created a very simple rig made of bones an ik's just to see how this model can move.. i like when it starts moving , it's like a mannequin coming to life.
So in this process i found out for instance that the arms were too long at first (the previous image is after the fix).
I aslo created a fast morph of a screaming expression to help visualize this.
I think it works pretty well. please let me know if i'm wrong. or maybe if i'm right :)

Good luck man!

Regarding the pose, I kind of liked the pose you had in that photoshop sketch you posted better than this one, it has more attitude to it and for me it's more interesting. It's also a better example of "strange behaviour" referencing to tigers' personalities.

...Having said that, I'm a little unsure about the concept itself:
For the modern people who've been exposed to so many fantazy stories, brought to life in so many techniques and styles, "A singing tiger" might not be considered a strange behaviour at all... Of course it will all be a lot clearer when detail and more information will be added to your concept sketches, I just thought I'd bring my thoughts regarding the concept as early as possible :)

Anyway, wherever you take this - I support and eager to see where you'll get with it!
Good luck once more, and keep us tuned!

Cheers mate

Hey man!!
good to see you here, thanks for the feedback!

Regarding the pose, this is an animation challange, and not a still. so this character has to "go" somewhere. What i really like, and want to show here, is exactly the contrast between that pose i sketched to this kind of crazy animal roar. And i found this pose is better for testing him out, for it is more extreme. I hope that clears that.

I know the concept is not too clear yet, i want you to come back and see where it goes :)

two birds with one stone on this project, finish an old work from the wall and a character for a band. nice low-poly model so far are you going to do a high rez in mudbox or zbrush for the final piece?

CgEye
06-30-2007, 11:40 AM
Thanks Kid-Mesh. I checked out Timothy Albee's stuff, i never heard of him before, thanks for the reference :) the concept is pretty close, but the style is gonna be very different.

lemasterjg - The character for the band that i menssioned is not this one. This is totally for my own satisfaction.
Yeah, I'm gonna go into Zbrush with this. Thank you!

I didn't upload any thing in the past week, Been a bit busy with other stuff.
One of them is looking at some Zbrush3 tutorials, and improving my knowladge about it, and it's getting me exctied to get to that stage.

Meen while, i'm up-res'ing the model I've worked on and I'll post an update soon.

Here's an update of the model after i made it higher res. i chose to keep it unsmoothed for now, cuz it rounds stuff up, and it's not really the look i'm going for. I'll take to Zbrush from here to get the detail going.
