First sketch of the salad-eating zombie.

Love zombies, love your idea! The vegetarian zombie haha... maybe in the scene somewhere he's being offered meat somehow to show that he has options and simply chooses salad?

Hi StuntMan,

That's the idea... this is really just the zombie sketch. I'm still working on the background.
I was thinking about some old pictures of him, still slim and "healthy"... and he would be eating at home.

Thanks for the comments!

Finally I´m back from an unexpected (and undesired) brake.

More details added this time. The wall behind him is still incomplete. Those frames will have pictures of his good old days when he was "slim, healthy and handsome".

Great zombie design. Your idea of the back pictures is really original, maybe can be like comic frames and tell how the zombie change meat for vegetables, only a comment :) . Suerte!

Nice work so far! I like the idea

maybe in the frames behind him, you could tell the story WHY he is actually eating vegetables or the way he became like he is now?!?

Keep that good work on! :buttrock:

Ferx and Leo84 - Thanks for the comments!

I've been thinking about the portraits... I like the idea of showing how he became so fat. The tricky part is to do that in a natural way. I think it should have pictures from various periods of his "life" as a zombie. Maybe some magazines covers.. like a zombie supermodel.

I'll be posting it soon.

I'm kind of confused at this point as to how his chest/stomach is portrayed. It seems cut off at this point, almsot as if he is leaning over a chair. I realize he is very obese, but I think you need something more than just the striped shirt to make it look more realistic. And the other thing I'm wondering about is all his pieces of missing skin. I know its early on, because at this point they look very flat, like tattoos. I don't know if you've decided if they are going to be recessed or bulging out, but I think picking one or the other will be a big step forward towards building the realism.

The pieces of missing skins are pretty much placeholders by now... I'm still figuring out how the cuts and bruises will look like, but certainly they won't look flat.

Good point about the chest/stomach. It looks like he's embracing a huge striped egg!
Do you have any ideas about it? I think it lacks some wrinkles. And some tits. And definetly it has to lose the "egg silhouette".

Maybe it happened because I was going for a more cartoony look when I had the idea. Thankfully I changed my mind, but photorealism is still not my goal.

Thanks a lot!

The chest/stomach issue has been puzzling me for a while. I found out that the cause of the problem was, probably, the shape of the head. It was actually looking like a ball on top of a bigger ball. I decided to change the head for once. The face is pretty much the same.

I'll post the updated version as soon as it's done.

So, here's the new body and the new head put together. Changing the zombie design was necessary to solve some problems. And I've been rethinking the bruises, hence the absence of them.

The hand with the delicious cauliflower is now closer to the mouth. The other hand is a little lower, closer to the food. Not very interested in cutlery.

I'm already working on the background pictures and I'll post them as soon as I'm happy with them.

While I'm finishing the line art I've been looking for some zombie references and I've selected these 2 images. The big one is from Dead Rising (an X360 game) and the other one I have no idea where it's from(Resident Evil maybe?). But what really matter is that they serve to show how I'm intending to aproach the aspect of the zombie skin. I don't want my image to look that realistic, but some details will surely come in handy.

Even though some things are yet to be decided, I've moved on and started to paint the real thing. I still have to add the wounds, the background pictures and - thats new - I'm thinking about adding a ketchup bottle to the scene.

Maybe it's gonna make te transition of eating habits a little easier for him.

Hey Thiago, good work you have here, I wonder if the whole image is gonna be mostly black and white and red or are you gonna use more saturated colors for the vegetables.... that will be a nice contrast.

I think the skin folds in the arms are a little too thin, as wrinkles of a latex globe, maybe if you check some fat people reference you could make them more fleshy. I mean, he's rotting but he's still a chubby guy with lots of fat under his skin.:D I hope this helps...

Keep the good work coming!

very good idea!

In addition,
I like the matte, blunt gloss of the figures. In the contrast in addition, you paint him a fork with a fresh piece of vegetable, which correctly beautifully very shiny and a healthy color has. Then you have still another beautiful contrast with the also grayly remainder of the picture. Maybe you make it gloomy a little.

great concept, and the visuals looks promising too.
at first glance i though this was pugsly adams... I don't know what your final plans are for the character's treatment but i think he needs stronger identification as a zombie, as it's not coming across very well.

Greetings Thiago,

Sure is a spooky Zombie, but he is eating right now,.. smile. Considering the Zombie is contrasted by a healthful life style why not add a few more health related items to help that lone bit of broccoli? A few more bits of veggies or fruit on his plate, a copy of Zombie Health (a spin on Men’s Health magazine) or Preservation (a spin on Prevention) maybe a health club logo on shirt (Mortimer’s Gym and Embalming). Anyway it is sure fun to see your work all the best my friend!

And the background will have some framed magazine covers.

Hey Korendo!

Thanks for the comments, mate! The red cap is ketchup. There will be a bottle of ketchup on the table. Since he can no longer eat bloody pieces of meat, ketchup comes in to help him with the transition. I'll be posting it as soon as possible.
