I have 58MB free on my only main HD.

So I need a new one. Unfortunatly I work on a DELL (Dimension 8200), so I don't know how and what will work. What IDE will work?

I would like one, that can play uncompressed Video (around 30MB/s). If that's possible without a RAID.

The JB series of Western Digital drives should work fine.

(Also known as Special Edition series)

I'm sure the 120 Gig would work no problem, not entirely sure about the 160 or larger JB's. (Might require a bios update).

This is assuming you don't have a scsi system.

Whats the budget for this upgrade? You mentioned raid, so was wondering how much your willing to spend.

I don't think it's SCSI.

Whats the budget for this upgrade?
I asked my chief and he said: NOTHING..!

well.. I think around 200$ should be ok. And 120GB should be enough too. (So I don't have to worry about BIOS update)

I've been looking at:

Maxtor: DiamondMax Plus 9 - 120GB/8MB
Wester Digital: Caviar Special - 120GB/8MB <-- is that the one you mentioned?

I think 8MB cache would be worth it.. right?
Are both reliable? (Unfortunatly we have no good backup system at work.. go figure). Which one's faster?

Thanks Greg!

Both are good drives. The Maxtor has a 1 yr warranty, while the Western Digital has a 3 year. (Yes thats the drive I mentioned). I'd go for the WD, but thats my personal preference.

mhmm.. the Maxtor has an ATA-133 ?!

Is that something only new PC's have and my a bit older DELL (Pentium 4, 1.6Ghz) could have a problem with?

Thanks again.

ATA-133 is backwards compatible with ATA-100 and ATA-66. It offers no performance advantage over ATA-100, Unless your running some sort of Raid array.

Now if our technic guy would be as fast as you ;)

(Still waiting for the RAM update)
