hi Boon:
thanks for ur critic... but please use ur common sence or ask ur lecturers or my ex-lecturer eric about is it able to trace a colour pencil drawing on a A2 size red colour texture paper? if can, will it be better to draw it directly on the paper? and ask eric about did he teach me to trace for colour pencil drawings ... next time please use ur brain..b4 u say anything.
... yup maybe the standard is not very good when the time i m drawing this picture in my 2nd year 1st term... for me ,this is just a try and my 1st colour pencil drawing...i m not a illustration student that means i dun have the chance to learn colour pencil sketching .... and some of my classmate in dg17 knows that i dun trace even in marker drawings not like the others student. i m not saying u trace on a lay out pad and apply marker on it is wrong for ur case, and the lecturers also teaching u in this way.... just i want to draw more and learn more.
and Boon, i hv one things need ur help, do u mind and ask ur frens to use some simple and understandable english in this international froum when u post any reply. my english also not very good , but i wont write those funny thing like (lah, leh, lor ,geng lah...???) on a international forum like cgtalk.i have saw it happened very often in urs posts . if i can view it here in singapore that means people from the world also view it... i m from the same school as urs ,and i dun want any people laugh at our school since u all like to bring our our school 's name here. please respect urself.... ur fren's work r not bad ...but u should accept other people's comments, my comment for urs drawing is come out from my heart and i m really want to help urs to improve. so dun just angry bcoz of it....for me ,ur action is just childish.

i dun mind critic, but where is ur critic? U call this as a comment? if u find something wrong with the drawing.. just post ur comments here, people like us post our works here , bcoz we want listen to other people's comment to make us improve.... which area u think out of shape?? where out of proportion?u really know what is proportion? what things (geng lah = like shit --- in malaysia langauge)? ...u said u can't do it..? ofcoz u cant do it , i think u never touch colour pencil drawing b4 if i m not wrong , if not u wont ask me those silly questions. and u know one thing?what I think the person who easily say other people tracing is bcoz they used to trace. once they saw other people's drawings...the 1st thing come to their mind is tacing....
if u want to have a good skill , please spend more time on ur work and be more focus. then only u will improve. hope u post some work here and do try out a colour pencil drawing in one week and post here and u will know what i mean color pencil is better to hand draw then trace.. since u r doing marker on characters. think u r now 3rd year 2nd term rite? do try it out....is fun. ...i spend about 6 hour, one week for u should be enough... remember to post here ok.
another thing Boon listen here : if u r not happy or not agree with what i say here and want to reply me something here which is out of the topic as COMMENT, please sent to my PM , i love my school TOA and i dun want anyone to damage his name.....thanks
nice to meet you.
Jesus~!
please don't flame each other here (especially we're from the same school). It's more be likely to give each other a helping hand and constructive critiques or comment than making enemies around. We've had enuff war out there. don't start one here. (I almost can smell it)
ok, let's back to ur question. http://www.splicewarestudios.com/kfc/share/paintertips/1.jpg
ShortCuts,
Ctrl+H - Hide All Tools/Show All Tools and Palette.
very useful to me.
[ or ] - just like PS. increase or decrese the size of your brush.

When I was a newbie in painter (not too far from now, a couple of months ago). I never pay attention to this drop down menu. actually there's some very nice brushes down here which we should try it out ourself and explore it on our painting. I find that Loaded Palette Knife is the best in applying and blending colors. Feels like Oil Paint and at the sametime i can get the details i want.
For Example,
http://www.splicewarestudios.com/kfc/share/paintertips/3.jpg
Anyway, I'm still using all of the default tools at the moment. Actually there's still alot of nice custom brushes (such like Marker) out there for downloads. If anyone here willing to share, i would hope to see someone posting their brushes and share it with us.
http://www.splicewarestudios.com/kfc/share/paintertips/5.jpg
This is my basic settings that i feel comfortable with.

Here's the script panel. I find that it's very useful to record your work in progress from start till the end. once u've save the script. it'll play like it's magically drawn infront of your face. I guess Metal Gear Solid's video where sketches drawn strokes by strokes should be using this tool to achieve the desired FX.
http://www.splicewarestudios.com/kfc/share/paintertips/7.jpg
And remember, papers texture can be define with the default one. or u can create your own. Some crazy illustration students here has tried to scan in the real gesso on canvas and use it in painter. still feels the same like real media in final product.

Ah! one more thing. I'm using painter 6.1 here (can't afford the upgrade). Eventho there's some fancy tools in version 7. but most of the painter out there still prefer 6.1 because of it's faster respond on water color media. well, all of the information above are from my friend/teacher - LEO. Let's hope i can convince him to start posting his work here too. He has got hell alot of great work since he's started fully using digital media for his painting.
Good Luck to everyone!!! Cheers~!
remember, no more flame on each other. :wavey:
BTW, if u wanna get your work to be posted in higher rez rather than depending on uploading lowrez to the forum. i would say it's better that u get a web hosting (there's free out there) with full ftp access and make a link to your own host.

i means they laugh at me not bcoz of the silly comment, they laugh bcoz of the way boon and other student they reply to other people's thread, and the wrose thing is people ask me about " kingston... TOA? u r from that school also rite...kekekeke" wow... i really nothing to say, and just keep quite and do my work.... think u will know what i mean. u r at malaysia , maybe u can't feel it, but when i saw here in singapore or other countries, it just....can't imagine what other people think.
or if they want to chat and make fun here , just don't mention about our school 's name , i find it will be much better. ofcoz i will be proud if they got great works post here together with the name of TOA .. good nite.
kinston,
I do understand what u mean from the way how outsider look at us when they saw funny post like this floating around in this forum.
Speaking of this, it's not only an issue from our college. Some students from other school even worse in this. They flame the hell out of me when i get in to their own forum and they found out that i'm from a different college. Maybe this is the only thing i don't like asian. some of them are too narrow minded and never thought of sharing could help our industry and social to improve like westerners.
Believe me, my students are nice and quality person. it's just that sometimes we might experiencing language border and not too sure how to respond in a language which we not so used to. Actually I'm proud of them on trying to take a leap on starting to post their work here. They need alot of encouragement in order to start making it a good culture for all of the art students around. as for language, i believe everyone here including me and you are still learning to be good mannered. just give boon a break and be friends.
and btw, Maybe u can try to talk to your colleague and tell them proudly that you have got the skill to prove you are worthy. Good work says a thousand words. And our friends here in this college aren't posting works here to promote our college. we didn't even mentioned about our college at all in our thread (because i told them not to). Maybe our technique looks too similar and can quickly recognized at a glance. well, i do thinks that it's a good sign. Once we get used to the formula we learnt here, then it's time to start breaking rules (atleast get the passing mark first, get the degree and get a job). I guess you might be in the "break the rule" stage where u are trying to find your most comfortable style. Good luck to you and wish u all tha best!
Cheers~!
Good night.

by the way KFC , did u try the
(clone and clone source form images)---under edit---
if u choose clone, it will come out a clone file for u , if u choose the 2nd one , u will hv to open a new file same size as the source file.... change ur brush to dry media , make sure (clone colour )in the colour planet is on... draw at the cloned canvas with textured paper as background.... the effect is great.it look the same as the photo, but will have a layer of dry media texture on it. and not only dry media , water colour also,
and if u think u hv over do it , just simply choose the clone brush , think is (clone strange option) and 50% trans..touch up the areas u want it to be more solid without texture... thats a good background effect. go try it ,and thats all i can share on painter so far.....oh, by the way, u mean leo was the one teach u painter..i though is eric......how come i thought he dun like cpu stuff ....hehehe...wow LEO... he s damn good man ... shy master no.2.. "OII LEO!!! : Kingston here, post some work here ok" ....hehehe... good luck ...miss u all always.

i m a very easy going person... just when talk r bout work will be more serious... i did try scold the whole class in eric's figure study class ..becoz the whole class is playing , joking ...and i can't hear what eric what teaching, the whole class (combain class) dun like me... but i never care, and is not only happen once.. but i m a very active person after class, i will fool around, joke with my frens...i m just that kind of person,
... u hv to understand that i m pound with u all... i never see our school student here b4, only KFC... now i saw alot and alot coming ...is great... i explian why i say that in ur thread bcoz really i saw alot people giving comment about the model, and franky speaking , the frog model is too simple, u cant do anything about it also, next time try not to be so bad to another person ok....hehehe, u r major in dg rite... do post some great 3d work here ok..?ok ... to be fair.. i post one human character model on monday in WIP ...let u and ur friends who ( dun like) me ...hehehe... to give comment, ok....... ur can comment as hard as u want ... but i want really (comment). bye .

uggh. comeon. no offense boon but.... what kinston said is really right. you should really try to take out that 'malaysian' slang. it just dont fit here. like said.. it's a international forum here and english is the language used. ppl from other countries can't possibly undestand your post(probably), and not wanting to reply a post. it's obvios that theres not much ppl posting in this thread.
yeah.. ON TOPIC. kinston.. nice one.. you used color pencil for the whole A2 sized paper?.. whoa.. you 've got hell lot of patience. hope i have that. it's not that bad as boon said. :) keep up.im sure ur very good now. why not post something recent?.i think what boon said that is out of proportion is maybe the guy in the middle. his shoulders seems to be lower than usual.and arms are abit too large. dunno .just my 2 cents.
oh and by the way. im NOT from TOA.
