Title: Centaurus Morosus
Name: Jelmer Boskma
Country: Canada
Software:

Centaurus Morosus, A rather mysterious creature that owes his name to the mythological Centaur and more commonly known Walking stick insect (Carausius morosus).
It wasn't my intent to use a horse as refference. I have mainly looked at dogs, horses and cammels, and tried to come up with something fresh.

I have tried to bring as much life to this character without painting or animating him.

Basemesh done in XSI, fleshed out in Mudbox, posed, tweaked and detailed in Zbrush3, lit and rendered in XSI.

Sick work, Jelmer!

Its amazing to see how you stick close to your concept.
Would be cool if you post that here too so that all the people here see how professional you really are. I don't know many artists who are great at concept art and modelling.

To hell with those who voted this 3 stars
Bloody amazing!

Jelmer babe, Superb as usual from you. Concept and execution are sublime. You make it very hard to criticise mainly because the first impact stays till the last view.

Loved it matey

What's up Jelmer!
Heheh, how awesome is this! The little antlers are a nice touch, they really give the creature something plant-like almost, he would fit perfectly in a forest scene.

Hey Jelmer...nice work! I like the first pics/renders of the character simply because of the daunting pose and the essence of the character that you convey. The secondary ones no so much...but likely you are just showing all of the character so I can understand. I am just a sucker for poses and silohuettes...

In any case, another cool concept and excellent execution...I feel you communicate his age and ware through the general texture and weight of his skin -- particularly the way the skin on the face, hands and neck (even somewhat on his ribs and abdomen) clings to the bone and tendons. For me, it has the sense of being thin and dehydrated....worn from time. I guess it is because I see this detail that my critique would be to incorporate a bit more of that sensibility throughout the model...not just in the skin but also in how the muscles are conveyed as age can atrophy and thin them in different ways, even if they are still strong and powerful...However, I think this is more of a personal choice and a thought to explore on a future model.

Keep up the good work and keep sculpting...your job is to entertain me, right? Sure. Either way, thanks for sharing as always...
