Hello all, I've been using Wings 3D lately and downloaded 3Delight and Ribbit, however, I'm a total newb to 3D, and have no idea how to get the renderer set up properly. What's all this about setting paths, etc. How is this done? Wings recognizes the 3Delight installation cause it shows up as a render option, but I keep getting an error saying it cannot find 3Delight.dll when renderdl.exe runs.

Can someone offer a brief step-by-step on setting up the renderer, please?

Thanks,

Are u on Windows? You may have to set your path variable, you can do this through control panel -> system -> system properties -> advanced -> environment variables (thats on XP, check in your help files for details on other versions under PATH). You may need to add an entry to the variable named PATH, that points to c:\3Delight (or wherever you got it installed). Under Win2k you just need to add the path itself.

Before you do this just check whether its already registered, a quick way is to type PATH into a command prompt and see if the path to 3Delight is listed. If it is, check C:\3Delight\lib (3Delight may be in a different folder) to make sure 3Delight.dll is installed. If no, you need to reinstall.

I had about the same problem. Besides PATH, check also other Environment Variables (i.e. other paths). If I remember correctly, one of them was autoinstalled wrong. You find all Environment Variables when you right-click on My Computer, go to Properties and there is a button on one of the tabbed pages.

And as the first thing, you should make sure that you install it into a directory that's name does not contain spaces, i.e. C:\Program Files\3DELight is bad.

Well, I checked the things you suggested, but still no luck. Here are the screens of what is happening. Take a look and see if you can spot a problem.

I'm not sure what to suggest for your current problem, but I noticed another problem you'll run into. Look at DL_DISPLAYS_PATH, it says C:\3Delight\lib when it should be C:\3Delight\displays , the same thing happened to me when I installed 1.0.3, and other people are having some problems with the install working properly as well. You know, I see Maya in your path list, when I installed Maya PLE 4.5, it blocked some of my paths for some inexplicable reason, when I uninstalled it everything worked fine. If that is Maya PLE I see, you might want to uninstall it, see if it works, then reinstall it, maybe that'll help. I know, it sounds like voodoo but that's what happened to me. :D

That's exactly the same I had. Two things:

1. As FBMachine already pointed out - DL_DISPLAYS_PATH is wrong, replace C:\3Delight\lib with C:\3Delight\displays
2. Remove the slash in PATH definition

HTH, I got it working.

Yippee, your suggestions worked. I got a nice clean render.

Thanks a million,
