I need to somehow create a realistic sci-fi city like "Coruscant" from Star Wars for a background image, but I don't know where to start.

Does anyone know if there is a tutorial on this or if there are some free futuristic city images somewhere.

Would I be better off do ing this in 3D? I have looked at Dystopia City blocks, but I need a night shot with building lights so I don't think the Dystopia City Blocks will work.

Any ideas, images or tutorials would be much appreciated!

Thanks

dylans cityscape dvd is awesome, also the tropical one where he works with building by building and chopping existing photos. cool stuff.

I'll post a thing I did for a starwars fanfilm christmas card, shane felux did for his starwars revelations movie. I used those city blocks to start

hey paint guy , welcome, well a night sci fi city scape is not that easy a lot of lights are involved thousands ! but there are some tricks, check out this post , I did here a sci fi cityscape matte painting where I mixed up techniques like 3D for the foreground and 2D for the background, all the detail and most of the textures are detailed in photoshop . first think about your project , will the camera move?? what will my main focal node be? do you already have some concept for the buildings?? start doing some rough sketches , the visual composition is almost everything in matte painting ... if you have any question feel free to ask or go in to the tutorials thread I'm sure you will find lots of interesting things .
