View Full Version : unwrapping uv map in maya8

i am trying to unwrap the uv's for texture mapping a polygon created from subdivisions in maya8 (rendering with mentalray). so far i have been attempting to use the texture editor, but must admit that i'm at best a novice in texture mapping.
the issues are that the texture has a pattern that should be continuous around all (or almost all) edges and the pattern should not shift in scale as the polygon faces shift in scale.
i was advised by a 3dsmax user to render the flattened geometry (a print screen from texture editor perhaps), and draw the pattern on in photoshop. is there a better, more integral way of accomplishing this?
