Hi, I am a student who has recently completed my degree at Teesside University, and is currently looking for a job.

I have made a demo reel and want to hear what you guys think about it.
I originally had two versions, but have decided to go with the shortest one, I have kept the long version here so you can check that out too.

Download links:

The final, short version. 200kb/s (http://artofjens.com/Videos/DemoReels/DemoReel2007_Final_200.mov)
This version includes music, has the title screens removed, and all loops in 4 camera view.
there is a change of colour for the ground for the new loops, but don't think that matters much.

OLD extended version 200kb/s (http://www.artofjens.com/Videos/DemoReels/DemoReel2007_Long_200.mov)
this version has unnecessary title screens, no music and a tiny typo. But also have more content demonstrating the rigs to the characters in the demo reel.

One thing to note, all content except the background video in the end use solely real-time shaders, and consist merely of preview renders.

I think this is important to emphasise as getting things to look good in real-time takes more effort then for pre-rendered stuff.

Also be free to check out my webpage artofjens.com (http://www.artofjens.com/) (under development) and share your thoughts about that too.

Very nice!! I love your rigs, they are done very well and would be very easy for someone to use.

One thing I noticed, at the very end, you mis-spelled "3D Studio Max"... just a minor error, but I'm sure you want your demo reel to be as perfect as can be!

There is alot of good stuff that you have worked on. For a Demo reel you would like to make it as short as possible, 1 minute to a minute in a half. Music is needed...If anything something a little horror for the monster guy and one settle for the Head. To me the more the demo reel played it turned into a riggin demo reel more then a model and animation. Try to stick with one for a demo reel if possible separate them into seprate demo reels. So if one company is looking for animation, model or riggin you can send that instead of the whole pie in other words. Other then that you got some great! Stuff Keep it up.

For those commenting on the rigging focus of the reel, I made a version without that, the non extended version. That version is also about a minute shorter, as the extended version is the original one, I realized that it was starting to get very long so I shortened it where I thought it would matter the least.

Grantmoore3d, thanks for spotting that error, will replace the video with a corrected version as soon as possible.

Any comments or thoughts of the way it was presented, was the in-between title screens useful, or just annoying? Same goes for the informational text, distracting or interesting?

Its not distracting but it does that up alot of time for your reel. You want to use every sec. you can to present more then having the in-between. I like the idea don't get me wrong but that I think it would be used more for like a DVD menu bar.

I updated my first post with a link to my new version without the in-betweens and corrected the spelling mistake at the end. I think this version comes out more concise and feels more fast paced, but still no music though… I guess I just have to tell it straight, I ain’t much of a musical guy and have a pretty limited music collection.

I tried to go trough the music I had on my computer, but didn’t think much fitted well.

Also I’m not too sure about copyright infringement issues with using soundtracks and those kinds of things. Can anyone enlighten me on that?

seems a lot more fluid without the title screens

Looks alot better...at the end when you showing the cycle of the guy running and jumpin I think you should take out the 3/4 view and keep in the all 4 camera angles and show it once only. Instead of showing it twice.

I just wanted to tell that I have now added music to the reel.

Dunsoner, I agree, it seems a bit unnecessary to show the character animations twice. Although it’s not quite the same, but I do agree that the first ¾ view should be removed. I will just add the remaining jump, leap and death animations to the 4 camera view. This update will probably be ready tomorrow.
