Hello everyone:
Here's my very first sketch on the subject.
My idea is to depict the Devil himself in love, and how being in love changes the hell in a more friendly environment for the ones around. Not sure if it's very original, so please, anyone notice me so if not...
thanks!

New sketch for this Devil in love. My inspiraton for him is Willie DeVille, or the looks of Iñigo Montoya in The Princes Bride. He seems to have seen an angel ;)

Here's my first "almost there" sketch+ color scheme on the task. The main subject is shaping up just fine, I think- but still needs lots of balancing, and the colors seem to work together but yet again lots to tweak and define until everything comes together nice and clean. Suggestions are very welcome!
Thanks for dropping by.

IMHO, everything looks good. Characters poses are very theatrical but they work great. I am not sure if that Angel painting is necessary. Now I don't know what is more imported ... The Devil (who is obviously in love) or that Angle. Anyway ...its looks cool! :)

wow this looks really nice.... the idea is hell-arious :D... u might wanna rethink the expression of the devil sidekicks... maybe a bit more sissy look with a big smile wud look interesting, cus davils r always angry looking, so why not reverse that too?.... just my 2 cents....

Keep up the good work... best of luck mate:thumbsup::buttrock:

Hello there Raul,
Differently from Kaolin just above me, I have to say, I really like the two guys in the back. They are awesome. I like your little story, and so far so good, everything looks fine. I’ll be watching your progress with a sharp eye, if that means anything. Good Luck!!!

heheh great poses and facial expressions! one suggestion: the hand of the guy in the back shouldnt overlap with the devil..would be better i think :)

Thanks for your feedback so far, all of you guys, very much appreciated.

I'll be re-sketching the whole comp trying to get rid of overlappings (thanks Vahn), and maybe trying a differente angle. I'm keeping for the time being the angry expressions for the Devil's minions (thanks for your input overcontrast and Uldferr) as the story goes they'd prefer Hell as it was, instead of an girly Ikea-lamp-lit version of it, but I'll see how it looks with different faces anyway. ;)
About the angel portrait (thanks Jakkas), I personally think is good to depic the subject for love for this Willie DeVille Devil to have a full-circle storytelling there.
Again thanks everyone! Keep c&c's coming!...

It's been too long since I updated this thread, and I'm afraid I'm slipping behind! Now that the project it's almost over at work, I'll have plenty more time to shape up this illustration- fingers crossed. Here's a background blocking and an alternative version for the poses of both Devil and minions. Let me know what you think...and thanks in advance ;)

I'm still sketching to try to get the main subject right and balanced. I've changed Devil's pose as it looked slightly flat before from the side, added a jelous Fury and a howling Cerberus, and stuck one of the before sketched demons-I liked his face. I've began too to sketch the condemned happy faces and expanded the framing up. Looking forward your crits on the changes... :)

I'm afraid I'm slipping behind big time, but I cannot help it, too busy these days (and who's not?). Anyway, yet another change for the main character, but I'm reasonably happy with his pose this time, so the main subject will stay as it is from now on... Just have to polish everything up! Just.

Great idea - this is coming along great - i like the blue light that is coming down - i also like the little disgusted demon on the left. The only thing that doesn't read well for me is the three headed dog.

Thanks Musi! I do like better the single rose too, as a pose... the thing is that I wanted petals falling over them, so I came up the bunch idea. At first, one of the devils was throwing them, but it got too in the main character way, I think... I might change the whole thing by the end, though ;)

I've almost finished the shrine, Cerberus-lacking some motto in his badge still though, and the violin demon, although once the full main theme is completed it'll need balancing, but I'm leaving these to when I go for the background. I thought too to add some more jewellery on the Devil's chest, and a tattoo on his belly just like Kirk Hammett's.

One day, one of many in the endless boredom of managing Hell, a deafening sound quietened down the usual shrieks and teeth grinding. Up there, right above where His Evil Majesty's throne is, an enormous shaft of pure light came down through a massive crack in hell's dome, probably the result of neverending widening works to cope with the huge stream of sinful souls steadily making their way downward.
His Majesty first looked sceptical, almost in denial - "How in heaven's could such thing have happened in his dominion?!"- looking for the cause or who might be responsible for this unexpected event. Gazing through the giant breach above Him suddenly His eyes went wide open. His heart stopped before jolting back into beat, pounding like a war drum, goosebumps all over his skin. Through the broken dome, someone was looking at the mess with similar disbelief, and, just for the briefest of seconds, looked him deep in the eye before fading away, probably to inform someone wiser about the event.

That someone was She: The Blond Angel.

It hasn't been long since that day, but Hell is not the same place it was before. Something's changed inside Its Lord: He's not evil anymore. He's kind, and generous and caring... He's even lowered the heat of the lava so it's more like a hot bath than a scolding cauldron. Some say he's just grown old and tired of being evil all the time; others, that a boulder hit Him in the head and that it'll be worse once he comes back to his senses. Just a few old, poor romantic souls smile quietly and say that he'll never be the same again...

Hi Fabio, Marlon, thanks very much for your feedback on the last image guys... I agree it somehow reads better the other way round, I only flipped it to be true with the original and because it was planned for having the devil gripping on his chest right where the heart is... mmm...That said, it's the Devil! so it migh have it on the other side, who knows.

I desaturated it a bit as it looked a bit too bright in my monitors, and that's why it's lost a bit of warmth feeling, not sure now if for good.

That last one is the "final image" post, but new as I am in this challenges, I ignore if you can ammend it or keep on posting final images if new crits come on. Does any one know? Could I submit a second final image? Is it worth it?

Anyway, thanks everyone for your crits and comments, really appreciated.

Such a well handled story. It was a pleasure to watch this one, I think you've done an excellent job with absolute precision.

Your composition, and lighting just works right to me. The distribution of refining and sktchyness has a great balance all around the canvas. I love all of your characters, their expressions are well thought out, and they simply belong that world and story. Moreover, you are a writer as much as you are a painter!
