View Full Version : Problem: bridge option
Ralfen 06-26-2007, 10:34 AM Hello everyone !
I have a problem with bridge option in Wings. Im working on a simple gun model (Im using mirror) And I would like to somehow connect these (Image1) polygons without having bugs in mesh.

After bridge operation I get this :

As you can see there are some unneeded polys bettwen "bridge". I would like to either find the way to get rid of them or learn how to connect without a "bug".
I would be really grateful for any help !

Hi!
You will have to break the virtual mirror, bridge the part you want and then re-create the virtual mirror :) Thatīs the only way if using virtual mirrors.
Best regards.

I'd suggest there's some issues to be aware of / look out for ... with the particular shape you're attempting to make, as it looks like you're trying to make something that has a completely enclosed hole (trigger guard, maybe?)
If you do as previously suggested ...
Break VM
Bridge the 2 faces
(You'll then end up with 2 new edges on the VM face that you can't dissolve / get rid of, since the way that wings works doesn't allow this to happen. )
So, if you do the above, then select a mirror face for VM and then freeze, and smooth the whole object, you'll get a 'crack' in the geom somewhere.
So, you'll be able to work in VM ... but you'll have to remeber to sort this out at some time.
There are various approaches to getting round this issue, but as soon as you have 'thro' holes + VM together, you've gotta be wary.
suggestions
Freeze the model first
Dissolve the (intermediate / interconnecting) edges on the 2 regions of faces to form 2 single faces with equal vert counts (that Bridge needs)
Bridge these faces
Use LoopCut to cut the object in half to regain the mirror face (... note the 'face' across the hole)
Select VM face, apply VM and carry on working ... ignoring the 'membrane face' covering the hole.
When done, freeze model
Select both membrane faces and apply Face | Bridge ( this re-opens the hole)
Select whole object in object mode
Apply Object | Cleanup to get rid of duped verts around the hole (edgeloop) ... note how info (top left) will change, showing this.
or
Just don't bother completely bridging across to create a hole at this stage ... leave a very small gap and then, after finishing the model in VM -
Freeze model
Prepare face that are to be bridged (dissolve unecessary edges)
... and Bridge 'em. :)

Ive tried 2 approches.
1 With break, bridge, recreate.
This method didnt work for me as I get a new face (from bridge operation) with edges that cannot be dissolved. Virtual mirror says that there can be only one face selected.
2. leave a small gap, freeze , dissolve unneeded edges from 2 faces, bridge
That seems to be a better solution cause eferything worked.
Once again great thanks for help !
Also thanks for the link ! Its really useful !
