View Full Version : Character: Knight
Vushvush 03-20-2003, 10:37 PM Hey guys,
Knight WIP for a future animation. Need feedback with suggestions. It is meant to be fairly realistic, not high fantasy oriented so he has no armor pieces bigger than himself :)

Difficult to tell without seeing it front on but the body looks a bit wide. Nice style though- perhaps some other views?

Very nice model. Can we see more views of it. From what I can see the armor looks very authentic, especially the gauntlets. Great job. :buttrock:
I also like the pauldrons and hip parts. With some added details like more rivets and ornaments this knight will be excellent.
Can't wait to see more updates.

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm attaching another view. Some notes though:
There are no real textures. I just through something quick on the chainmail to seperate it from the armor. Ease of reference.
Thanks for the comments about the authenticity. I showed it to someone who actually identified it as 16th century German design (I was pleased). Perhaps that is why you though he was too wide, it isn't fantasy armor meant to make him look buff like Batman, but to give him room to move and breath :)

Thanks for the other views- that leg armour is great! The chest armour seems to need a little something extra, if only because the rest of it is so cool. Nice stuff.

No, thank you witchy. I think the issue with the breastplate will be solved in texturing. With a design and bump map I think it will be broken up correctly. Just following the armor in our musium :)
But I'll put a lot of focus on it, thanks.

Refined the model a bit. Put first coat of textures to get a feel for the look.

What a sexy knight, oo la la ;) It's looking good so far, one thing about the cape, it reminds me of Ultima Online's newbies running around with capes, lol jk :P But then without it will look ackward, or you can put a big sword on his back for him to carry will look kewler than a cape? Just a thought.
And you know who this is, heh
Your girlie :wavey:

looks pretty cool:) I think the hips area should be less narrow and the chest plates / overall width should taper more going down from the shoulders to the hips

i like the textures. he needs to be taller and broader at the shoulders. the legs are too skinny. hey he's a knight right? LOL
Honestly, if you just tweak ur proportion to look more macho and keep the textures, i'd say its good as done !

Well, I was going for the realistic look, so he is modeled after the real deal. That means he doesn't have the characteristics of the fantasy characters everyone posts here. Are you guys suggesting that the real knight is no fun and he needs to be exaggerated to be pleasing these days? I mean, give him more "Batman" style armor rather than the real kind?

he looks well-proportioned and authentic. however i would have to agree with dom on the legs; even for a regular guy those are some skinny legs.

I'm thinking it is probabaly the angle... or the fact that his armor covers his hips. As I said, it is modeled accuratly after the real deal. My question is, I suppose, do you think that I should change it to make it more "pleasing" or keep the authentic look I was looking for? I must admit, sometimes those suits of armor are kind of goofy looking, but I suppose its partly because of the rigid pose. What do you think?

Alright I decided to compromise just a little(!) bit, so I made some small changes to his lower region and chestplate. I think it makes him look a bit better without making him "super buff fantasy hero" guy.

This would also give you a clear view of the proportions....Enjoy
