CTBunny 06-25-2007, 09:06 AM First try at a Matte Painting I did for my Raster Based Imaging class :) Thought I would share and get some feedback and how I did.

Well its not a bad effort. The main problem i see is lighting. The elements are all lit from different places, which makes it look very 'cut and paste'. You need to really spend some time and think about where the light from the moon will hit the different surfaces. Also, the colour seems very strange. The one building is in colour, but everything else is desaturated, which looks weird to me.
Its not a bad try though. Maybe next time start with a sketch, because when you do a sketch you are forced to think about things like light direction which will make for a more cohesive final piece when you apply your photo elements.

yeah I agree above, lighting here is a major problem,and so it is color, linear perspective and visual composition, try to add some stronger highlights to the background mountains , add a little bit of color to all , and of course some blueish tone because of the night mood, maybe you can find some better background elements that fits your perspective
