Wayne jermaine.. where's our rockin buddy?

Gunilla.. I agree Gunners, I've gone over it again and again and again and it is just such an awesome track. it builds and unleashes in a perfectly camp retro kinda way. And the ending enhances the tragic nature of the piece. Unfortunately, after contacting CGS staff about it I was pointed to the copyright material section of the rules and realised that I clearly can't enter it for judging... Not that I think I can beat the V!s, G!s and Z!s of this challenge (they're kicking some serious A$$) but I still wanna compete... Soooo... I went and saw an old friend today who said he'd give writing a track for the piece a shot... Me thinks we're onto something here too. Time will tell tho... Thanks for the Pom Poms :D

More soon:wavey: thanks for the great support

It's a pity you can't use that, it would fit really well
You can try to find some music on Jamendo
http://www.jamendo.com/en/
They are under free licence, so I believe you can use it without problems, you also can contact and ask the author for a particular piece (I did so and they agreed)

Nennad
09-22-2007, 07:48 PM
wow, texturing is very good...! Both on model and on props!
Only the skinny woman looks a bit odd in colour, like somewhat green...thats only, everything else seems perfect

Lighting is looking cool, nice job with it. I feel the table seems a bit overexposed on some parts, and maybe too orange, what do u think?

Gunilla
09-24-2007, 05:34 PM
Ohh... well, to bad you can't use the original soundtrack, but it can be wise not risking anything. I bet you'll find something good.
The colorset looks fine. They work well together and the lighting looks great!

And for moves, I think you could find some cool ones in this discoclip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfT2aOqwMlY)

pretty good animation for the hand movement. are you planning to show the nail polish actually getting applied to an unpainted nail? wondering if you have a solution for that yet.....i guess something like an animated ramp texture could do the trick.
good progress...i wish i was as far along as you.

Versiden
09-26-2007, 06:08 PM
good start so far.. that afro is killing me! haha

I think the brush seems to almost slide into the hand, and doesn't feel like the hand is grabbing the brush.

Plus my old beast is next to it on a kvm so I can render, switch, and work

My scene, when all is turned on for rendering has almost 2mill polys and maxes out my 4gig, I think that is why MR was hanging on the hair and fur render... more ram soon

DaddyMack
10-17-2007, 01:56 AM
hmmm... could try passes... deadline is tight tho and I don't wanna put anything hazrdous into the mix... Great suggestion Z! but I think I should just chug ahead as planned for now...

Nennad
10-17-2007, 10:32 PM
I like that you did a power-up to red-black-white atmosphere, with the small colour details and skin colour inside! And the level of realism... frightening! :)

Great job Rob !

mdavid
10-18-2007, 01:18 AM
What you are doing is very clever stuff. It's looking fantastic. I like the fact that the hair looks like a cheap poorly-shaped wig too - you know what you are doing and you are doing it well. Good luck taking this through to the final, mate

DaddyMack
10-18-2007, 07:57 PM
melkao.. Thanks mate, I agree about the hair, it's meant to look badbut not that bad... I'm refining it slightly to better suit

npantic.. frightening! thanks, I take that as a great compliment... this is by far my most advanced work since switching to max last year

gpepper.. Damn... sounds like a Barry Manilow song mate:D

mdavid.. Thanks Mark, I've got next week off for the home stretch so I am really hoping to pull out all stops and nail the last few scenes... your comments really give me a boost:beer:

I did a full res test and it took 7 hours to render for the still image (3600x3000) so there's a good nights sleep... I'll try and finalise some posing and post a prev of my aim for the final shot before I head to work today...

Thanks for all of the amazing support:bowdown::wavey:

Tremoside.. Aaaargh!!! It's all going wrong!!! Everything is outta control... not.... smooth sailing here mate, Got all my rendering done except for the last big scene which i'm about to start animating... just holding off on the updates while I get some work done

I wrote some lyrics today...

'I'm much too sexy for this
and way too sexy for that
I'm your Foxy foxy Mamma
I'm your little pussy cat'

You watch me blow you a kiss
you watch me shake my booty too
You better be sure about this
I'm just too sexy for you'

Even though it has its moments I'm not quite proud of the animation in this piece... I see much tired work but otherwise very happy with everything else... Learned heaps tho... I'll try and redeem myself with the grand finale

O and yaay I figured out the whole flv and uploader thang

shakes.. thanks daddyshakes, I'm having waaay too much fun over here... missed your zaniness on this one mate... ou'll be back

infoarq.. thanks:) it's been fun

Well... I had a few grey spots in how I was going to final this and yesterday it came to me... I think I'll even finish ahead of deadline and it should all read a little better when I'm done...

Thanks for the immense support on this guys :wavey:

DaddyMack
10-26-2007, 07:24 AM
Heyaaa... I fixed the stack issues with flex and have added some classy jiggle to the last shot... This is really shaping up now but eating my world... Can't wait for this challenge to be over so that I can take on something simple...

Trickz
10-26-2007, 11:49 AM
Haha I know that feeling. Be glad when we're done. But it looks awesome mate, very cool! Be great to see the final :)

Gunilla
10-26-2007, 02:55 PM
Haha! and haha! again.
That is some real cool moves for the babe - I love the first scene with the toenail painting. Looking forward to see the new jiggle on those cellulites. Wait, did I just say that!? :scream:

Is that you singing in the soundtrack? Almost BoneyM quality ;)

DaddyMack
10-26-2007, 11:12 PM
Trickz.. thanks for the boost, this is by far one of the hardest challenges I've taken yet, it's been awesome... it'll be great to see everyones finals here for sure and I'll be happily spending next week reformatting etc to start anew...

Gunilla.. thanks again G! and it's okay... I've tried to make it like 'it disgusts me but... I ... can't... stop... watching...' A good mate called it disturbing but seductive... Thanks

My reactor is still chugging away on the final sequence ( max estimated 15 hours left for the last 12 hours lol ) I've got 90% of the sound done and most of the post work too so it's really only going to be some final refinements and the big render to final it and start sleeping again... mmmm.... sleeeeeppp...

Software: 3ds max,Photoshop,ZBrush

This was a fun piece, it kinda evolved itself...

Basically the premise is that an extra large cross dressing man sees himself as sexy... Sexy to the point that when he looks in the mirror he sees a beautiful woman

The beuaty of delusion is that it is often the first step on the path to greatness... Unfortunately... Sometimes... Delusion is just delusion...

Delusion can help us to achieve things which we couldn't without them. Sometimes it can help to think you are a little better than you actually are at something so that you can feel confident enough to really give it a go. Sometimes it doesn't matter how much you delude yourself about something you're just not good at it and seriously need some training...

This is a good lesson learned for me through this challenge, that my animation skills are only average and I want them to be excellent... Time for some hard work me thinks;)

Thanks a mountain to you all for the great support and comradery throughout!

Wow! The final scene just made it lift the roof! Wonderful work Rob... congrats!

you know I never went to school for this stuff, all self taught and my learning goes through the roof every time I do a challenge with you guys...

Same here - I hope we can continue to grow together in future challenges.
Wait! Did I say grow? Not the best word to choose here :D

You rock, DiscoDad ;)

Looking really fun DaddyMack!
For some reason though it wont download the whole thing... Don't know if flv, cgtalk og myself am to blame... ;)

I like the change of soundtrack since last I saw the clip, very fitting :)

The animation loads just to the place where she paints her nails :(
Anyone else having problems with viewing that?
edit: dubbilan yes, and I noticed that problem with some of the other animations too, so if you too have that, I guess it's a CGTalk problem, first I thought it's my slow internet connection.

Daddy Mack is the last .flv the same thing as in the .mov some posts ago, or did you change anything? I can view only the .mov.
Great work, especially the moment where she fixes her bra and string. The voice fits in very well, you have a beautiful voice ;)
I think you made her skin a little bit too shiny, but on the other hand on stage they need this.
I hoped to see this little dance which you've shown somewhere at the beginning of the thread.
Ending is great, it brings over the general idea very well.
Good luck for the contest.

overcontrast.. Same with you mate, I always enjoy doing battle alongside you... I am amazed how well I connect with both your work and your personality... Thanks for making life more interesting Z!

DaddyMack.. Yoinks!

chocoski.. Humble thanks, it has been a fun journey from first post to last

Gunilla.. No... more... fat jokes... :P I know that we both approach the challenges from a similar angle Gunners, here to learn and play... You know you're among my favourite imaginary friends G! and I genuinely look forward to the next time we play

handlebar.. Thanks Steve, I really felt the growth from the push this time around... I filled a lot of the holes in the big picture with this one... Glad I can send some inspirration back your way, you rock mate! I still wanna collab on a little project with you Steve, will touch base soon;)

dubbilan.. THanks, it's been fun, the clip loads here... If it aint working you can always hit the 'download .flv' link underneath the vid

ania.. THanks ania, The cgtalk server has been getting hammered lately so it's probably a problem on their end, it loads here tho... there is a 'download .flv' link underneath the video that allows you to DL it and play it from your HD:) lol... obvious from your post about 'my beautiful voice' that you are yet to see the finale... lol, I made some truly terrible recordings for it and used the worst one... Thanks for all of your kind words and insight throughout the challenge

Wow... I go and get my first proper nights sleep without nightmares about flab and look what happens here:D Thanks for all the great response to this guys, I have genuinely grown as a result of this challenge and it was full of firsts for me... There is no way in the world that my commitment to this piece would've gone the distance without the pressure of wanting to impress you guys and without the support that has consistently been given to me throughout this challenge. Again, a humble  to you all...

Much respect due

Hi Dad,

For first: Congratulation on the final! It's a great piece LOL! Good idea and a fine realisation my friend! It was a hard-hard work, I know. Skinning, sculpting and lot of other not visible but horror time eating tweaks and deatils...

For secco: I feel familiar with you about missing experiences nor skills. I used Softimage's CAT for this time as an animation plugin for max. I also mentioned it to Gunnie. Now a newer version is out (3). I'm experimentin with the demo. It has some new features like muscle system. It's really handy, but first time looks a bit difficult to get the cool result. Not too documented, but quite a fine online base is open. If you want to directly start with animating characters it works extremely fine. You can customise a rig like I did on the first project. It's enabled to add custom meshez for a bone. Only have to add a head for expressions. Less modelin' more animation. Perfect for learning via action. OK, just an idea. You know: "after challenge what to do to be better for next time mood" :)

Am in the Self Taught League :buttrock:

Again:

Congratulations my friend, funny and creative final! :buttrock: :bounce:

Hey that turned out brilliantly. Wonderful stuff. I really liked your use of frames of text to make your point too - that was very elegant.

I also really like your approach to these challenges. There is (literally) a world of opinions and skills to benefit from in these things.

Congratulations and good luck from one self-taught person to another (although your self-taught stuff is miles ahead of mine!)

Wayne jermaine.. Hey thanks man, this was a fun one to play with

Tremoside.. Yeah mate, thanks, this really pushed my technical skills in max, he fought me sometimes but I learned heaps... I saw you and gunie talking about CAT and grabbed the demo and vids straight away... looks like a good little package and I'll be playing with it soon. Right now I've got a simple little smiley face character that my daughter and I are using for some music that she made... s i m p l e:love:but I'll be ready to fight another day soon.. thansk T!

mdavid.. Cheers Mark, it all came together nice and simple once the text came into play... simplest solution and all... Most of what I've learned both technical and aesthetic has come from these challenges, for me they are like a crazy little melting potwhere I can tap some of the best minds on the planet. lol... I don't know about miles ahead tho. You've got one of those instantly recognisable styles throughout your work... I'm still trying to define mine... still wanna catch you for a beer someday soon too:beer:

Kanga.. Hahaah you know it;)

Once again guys... humblest of thanks for all

gpepper.. of course I knew mate, I'm your fanboy too... I think that's the beauty of challenge time, we all mutually look up to each other so much that it gives us more reason to strive... Ummm... I'm not sure about 'crazier than you' though... PIOU PIOU... PIOU PIOU... I can still hear it. Thanks G!, been at this with you since M+S... Always a pleasure to battle alongside you my friend:buttrock:

Versiden.. Martin you legend! thanks mate, this was a fun piece to grow with, it's already gotten me some work (which I knocked back... I'm finally having summer this year). Glad you like Looie too, I originally made him as a still shot character but it seems he needs to be animated so I'll rerig him and get cracking soon.
