View Full Version : Working with wacoms tablets?
JSmustang 06-25-2007, 06:36 AM Ive proboubly dropped this in an incorrect forum, please forgive me if I have, but apart from using photoshop to edit images, I draw allot. I Want to use photoshop to draw images i make and hopefully submit them here to show off. But I have come in contact with a harsh decision that i have no knowledge of. I have never used digital pads before other than just using my mouse with my mouse irritates me in the fact i cant draw with the mouse. But im looking for not just a great tool to use, but also something thats compatable with the programs I use.

I wanted to know if this is good for photoshop, but also drawing in maya's paint effects. Does this allow an auto switch between mouse and/or pen ? or is software only specific to this program, I see that autodesk's sketchbook pro isnt listed on software that can be used with this, but it says that it can on autodesk.
It confuses me so. I am unsure what to do, I really want to finally start painting digitally with a digital pad, but the software I have, I have no idea if there’s compatibility, and/or if the pad and pen allow me to switch over ?

The answer to all your questions is yes. It will work on all of the apps including maya. You can use a mouse in conjuction with it or use the included Wacom mouse. I have one and its fantasticly quicker then painting with a mouse which I have done to my considerable distress. I also have purchased the bigger intuos brother in which if you become dedicated you will probably end up purchasing down the road.

I had originally bought my A5 wacom to paint masks for compositing work. Now I use it for everything including 3D modeling - found it to be a faster and more "natural" input device for me.

So im having option trouble, theres a 2 and a half grand one, then theres the 300 one, i can afford both but I dont want to waste 2100 dollars on something thats basically the same as there 300 dollar wacom tablet, can i do use all the features that are on the other wacom tablets, on the 300 dollar version thats in the link above ? Or is the cintiq the only one that can be used for everything ? I just want to get the graphire blutooth or silver 6x8 if its suggestable.

For the additional two grand you are able to draw directly on the screen. Besides being expensive, I don't think everybody needs or wants this - it is a matter of personal preference. If you are already used to working with a mouse, then probably an intuos will do the trick for you. Another thing to consider is the size and aspect ratio - if you are using a widescreen monitor, it may be a good idea to buy a wide tablet.

Anyone used to drawed with wacom tablet, share your experience, please. I want to buy this one. Thanks
There's really not much to say about using a tablet.
It's an essential tool for most all digital artists. From photographers to character modelers and texture artists.
If you have the need and means to buy one, don't hesitate!
You'll be amazed by what you've been missing out on.

Hi there,
In short, if you are working with graphics then you should buy a graphic tablet.
1. Wacom provide a huge range of tablets for all user bases. The price you pay for one will usually reflect:
# How many different levels of pen pressure sensitivity are available - The more you have, the more accurate and sensitive the pen will be to your actual movements and pressure on the tablet
# If it also comes with a mouse
# Tablet quick access keys / buttons that you can pre-program to open different applications, access program tools and many other things. You can also pre-program these buttons to do different things depending on what software or program you are using, which is extremely useful
# The actual size of the graphic tablet which will map its surface to the size of your monitor / resolution etc.
2. A graphic tablet is also FAR more natural to use as your hand is not twisted un-naturally as with a mouse. When you use a mouse you actually have to twist your wrist and hand into an un-natural position that is very bad for you. Not many people seem to realise this either.
I use a Wacom Intuos Pro A4 tablet and pen. They are both superb and I couldn't honestly imagine even trying some fo the things I do without them. Hope that helps and good luck.
