I'd like som critisism on how to take this picture further - The idea is very general, a young bride, in a close-up shot, smiling faintly, her eyes averted. I tried to achieve a "soft" mood with the colours, which I think I achieved, but I can't help thinking there could be something more done with it.

It started out as just a painting exercise, without a plan or a particular feeling which is why it is perhaps a bit.. plain? Any advice as to what could be done with the colours or general crits are very welcome.

Hi iuvo,
this is looking good already. But i guess you´re right that there is still some room for improvemnet left to work on. First of all keep in mind that a good picture doesn´t necessairly needs to be detailed and all, much more important in an early state of the picture is composition and color.
Care for the details later and work on the big concept first.

Second thing is: Don´t rely on colors a photograph gives you. They are lying :)
The only good way to learn how color works is in real life with real objects and persons.

Here i tried to tweak the compositon and colors a bit, if this is of any help to you.

Thank you very much for your advice - Your tweaked version does exactly what I was trying to do, but failed at. I'm definitely going to take your critisism to heart. I knew that photographs distorted colours, but I didn't know it was that much. I guess the way forward is painting from life as you say... Thank you for taking the time to open my eyes on this!

hi iuvu, i think youre really getting that soft mood. looks good so far but as artvandeley already said, try to work a bit on the colours. the shadows look a bit cold at the moment. when i think of a bride i see warm colors- like pastel yellow and pink and white.

perhaps you can try to flip the canvas from time to time- then youll have another view on your picture and you will see some little mistakes you didnt mention before. i dont really know what it is but is suppose that the upper part of her head its a little bit too flat and you could define her neck a bit more atm you mainly see a big shadow. but it think it will look great when its finished :)
greets adina
