View Full Version : The Blacksmith (short film)
juanferx7 06-23-2007, 06:00 PM Hi everyone, My name is Juan Fernado Terán and "The Blacksmith" is my first animated short film. All CG was done in maya, a little retouch in Zbrush, compositing in combustion and After Effects. The video was recorded width a Sony HDV cam and the render was done in full 1920 x 1080 (I´ll try to upload it in HD soon). I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed doing it!
All comments, suggestions, questions or crits are always welcome.

hey man i liked your work. And i loved the non-linear work of camera. I wonder if it was your goal to make the animation in a stop-motion style, because it looked like one to me. I loved how you textured the character and worked on his face and showed wrinckles and stuff.
good luck with your other work!

Hey, that was a really nice film! The lighting is great, it almost fooled me for live footage, the camera movement is very handy-real... Great work!

Thanks! about the stop-motion, i think its because the .mov i uploaded was at 15fps, (my mistake!, jeje) I´m uploading a little bigger .mov at 24fps.
Thanks again for all you comments!

nice work! I really like the integration and the way u light ur character. I also like the metoth u use, THE WIRES! thats the real stuff in VXF, the old school. Try to upload the HV version using the h.264 codec, with the original frame rate! don't do it again ad 15fps. Good luck in your future stuff!
Muy bien exelente trabajo... jaja.. hecho el gringo!

It looked great, but teh story didn't convey why everything kept moving away from him when he reached for things....?? And then at the end when he took some pill, all of the sudden.....he could grab things? I didn't quite understand it to be honest. But the model looked good. And i think it looked a little "stop-motionish" becuase of your frame rate like you said. But do tell about the story why things were happening the way the did.

Good idea here. Id say the biggest drawback is the animation. Your rendering, tracking and lighting are all great, but the animation is robotic and feels floaty and weightless at some points. Thats what i would concentrate on improving.
Good work.

Hello, I like your animation, very clean and the house have a traditional look, like some ones here in my country and the colors, light etc., the man with the stuff and the music was a good combination, so keep working like you know and good luck!!
