i want to composite a flame onto a pic at first for testing then onto a video

i have made my fire and rendered with alpha channel in software render with maya

i take this into PS and i get 1 of 2 things happening hen i try to select the alpha channel to leave the flame
1) it says no pixels were more than 50% and it doens nothing
or
2)it just does like 2 pixes which is no good

there is an alpha channel there but parts of the flame are translucent so i think it gets stuck there with the varing shades of grey

any ideas

thx

I've never used PS for compositing fluids, but in other comping software there were no problems. You may try creating your alpha based on luminance (just desaturate) - it will work for fire or simply use different blending modes (screen).
