View Full Version : Creating Depth Images
nerrazzi 06-23-2007, 02:36 AM Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't there a way to create "depth Images" from a movie file? I'd like to use this (http://www.frischluft.com/zborntoy/zborntoy.php) program with those video files if it's possible.

You can use dept information from another clip in your project or just paint them yourself!
You can even use some not dept information clips as a z-map in z-born but do not expect an expectable result! Btw you can achieve nice (and exotic thought!) things sometime! Just try it!
And about painting z-map, it’s fairly related to the clips you want to make z from, so it would be possible or no!
Btw I saw a plug-in that makes z-info from a 2d border painted clip (like on cell animations), thought you can find it here in AE section! And good news is that it was free! And under dev yet! :D

ZBornToy is file type agnostic. It will work on any greyscale footage, regardless whether it's a true depthmap, a sub-composition or an imported movie. How you get your "depth" data, is very much up to you.

I believe pfTrack from the pixel farm has the ability to extract depth from movie clips. Provided that there's enough parallax in the footage to get it. It tracks the footage like for 3d motion tracking, than calculates the Z-depth for each frame. Takes long to render, and is far from perfect, but you could use it as a start and then refine the depth map manually.
