View Full Version : A newbie Painter Question...
Jason Park 06-23-2007, 01:30 AM Hi, I have a some experience with Photoshop, but I'm new to Painter and I have been trying to copy(?) a technique, but I've kept failing. I can't seem to be able to do it.

I like how the clothing was painted, but I don't know what brush to use or how to tweak an existing brush to paint like that.
And for the face, do you think he roughly blocked in the colors and used "Just add water" tool to smoothen it?
I'm quite confused so any tips and help on how I can get started would be very appreciated.
Thank you so much!
P.S. Oh I have Painter IX. :)

Hi Jason,
It's anyone's guess what the artist used.
I'd write to him/her and ask.

It's just a wild guess but Ive done similar things by using "Acrylics- opaque detail brush" to lay out flat fields of colour and then blending them together using "Blenders - soft blender stump". He probably used "Tinting - basic round" on some places aswell.
But since the thing was made back in 2004, that means he must have used painter 6 or 7?

Hmm... I see. He probably gets like hundreds of emails, so I don't think my question will get answered. >.<
It says it's done in Painter 9, so I'm guessing it was when Painter 9 just came out?
Kaftan: I'll try the technique you wrote. I'm still experimenting with different brushes and wow, it's quite different from Photoshop. :) Thanks for the help!

You could look into books about colouring comic books, its a very similar technique to what he seems to be using. I havent been able to find one that was worth the money though
I started painting with traditional media and despite having used Photoshop for years, painting in it made absolutely no sense to me. Discovering Painter was "Whoah!"
