Q> I was tring to Print some wedding announcements. The printer I sent them to told me that they could not open it. I was confused and went over to them and figered out that inCS3 docs can not be opened by cs2 and lower.

A> What you have to do click exsport and save them as .inx with is a exschange format and that lets only CS, and CS2 open tham any thing lower can not be opened.

Hoppfuly this will help some one.

Thats good to know, I upgraded recently to ID-CS2.

Though I'm surprised you let your printer near the indesign files!

I adhere to a PDF workflow specifically to avoid this sort of problem!

(and to guard ourselves against those printers with a copy of quark and just enough knowledge to really mess* you up!) :argh:

yup. unless it's a printer i work closely with and trust. correctly set up PDF is the way to go.

only some cases where your dealing with a long document and want the printer to deal with creep etc. would consider maybe offering an open file... If i do that though, I end up handing the file over like a worried mother handing over her new born... to be baby sat by a dodgy uncle!

Got indesign CS3 but haven't got around to loading it up yet! I generally wait till things have settled a bit before putting new software in the front line anyway - let other folk iron out the bugs!

yup. leave the early release to the over eager up-graders!

I got CS3 early to start learning the new stuff. Its getting put to use in the studio proper sometime after the first run of update patches (That seemed to be where CS2 settled down). InDesign will be the last app to upgrade - probably some time in the new year/spring once the printers have had a chance to upgrade and get any extensions they use sorted too.

Started using Photoshop CS3 for a few things though... seems quite stable.
