anyway.....i got motivated to start a new character....and i always seem to run into a shoulder/chest/arm problem. so i wanna get the opinions/help from my fellow hashers/former hashers.

please let me know if i am on the right track or what i can do to improve my splinage or if you think it sux! THANKS!

I'm no expert, but your shoulder/arm connect looks exactly like how I typically solve it. Your boning solution and smartskinning (if any) will go a long way toward how well it all works out, however.

The shoulders (and the posterior) are my achilles heels as well. One thing that might help is extending the final edge loop of the arms into the chest. This will hopefully move the five point patches onto flat surfaces which should reduce that nasty pinch you can get when they're on a curved surface. Anyway, the model is coming along great. I've always liked the economy of splines in your models.

do you think big feet are a good way to go? just that you may have hours of unwanted "fun" if you get to walk-cycles and such.

I personally think the shoulders will give you big problems BUT I am not saying the model "sux" what a strange phrase - cos I would read that as offensive critiscism.

Man those are some bit ole feet. . . Nice mesh though.

hooch: i say sux, just in case someone really thinks it sux they will tell me.....don't hold back, it is only one persons opinion and some people like to be mean........so i don't want to discriminate....gotta stay PC these days.......hahahahaha!
What kind of big problems do you think i will run into? Could you be more specific?

Wegg: yeah the feet are big and i'm not sure they will stay that size, they were from another model so i just stuck them in to see how it might look

REberhart: i agree, i need to get the 5 point patches on a smoother surface........gotta work on that.........thanks

thanks again!

hello.
well i made some adjustments to the shoulders. i remembered David Rogers' book (a:m 2002 a complete guide) has a section on the shoulders........both a simple look and a more anatomical(you know what i mean) look, so i used that as a reference. i think it looks cleaner and i got a bit more body definition by doing it.

ok next stop...........the shoes............aaaaaaahhhh!

I don't believe in PC as I'm an inveterate Macuser
:D

problems - well your 5pt patches right at the shoulder have been solved/removed and the feet........

just imagine having such big feet yourself! I only ever did one big footed character but I still shudder looking back at the walk-cycles that I created then. :shame:

floppity floppity flop! flop! flop! (hangs head in shame)

hooch: by PC i meant "politically correct"
.....hahahaha...........anyway, i'm not a computer(OS) rascist!

i worked a bit on the shoes, they have been down sized. now that i see the shoes in my post vs. the shoes i have now, i can see what problems those clown shoes would have been.

thanks,

kung fu - (I won't shorten to "dork" as even us Europeans know it's an insult) I was just extending your humour with "PC" so no offence given or taken.

Re shoes - looks much better now. Going by your proportions, I for one am curious what the head will look like. Been trying to guess from when I first saw your model but I'm none the wiser yet.

Any hints? I might try shortening you to "Ah-so" but that may be too risky for a public forum....:D :D

hooch: thanks for the comments! i too am a bit confused about the head for this character. below i have posted the sketch i did of what i was thinking the character should look like before i started.....as you can see my proportions have changed dramatically. i guess i am gonna try to keep the same head concept and see how it turns out.
