View Full Version : palace WIP
RQuack 06-20-2007, 07:41 PM Hey guys, trying out a new scene. Really my first try incoporating 3d, paint, and photos. Would love to know what you guys think before I fix anything else besides the obvious waterfall and maybe a few issues with scale, lighting etc. Thanks! :)

very nice concept and execution, I like the composition and the architecture, , the mood is interesting and very dramatic, the only issue I see is that the background mountains look too sketchy or painted, try with some photos I'm sure this will look awesome when its completly finished , keep it up!

Right now it looks more like a paint/concept art (albeit a very cool one ;) ) than matte painting; Good colors; Now try geting in some photo references...mountain, waterfall, vegetation, etc

That's looking really good.
I agree with the painted-look comments too.
I would knock back the midground mountains with some atmospheric haze.

Thanks guys for all the comments. Guess my original pic got bumped out but I changed some things around, hopefully for the better. Still working on this off and on but let me know if I'm moving in the right direction.
-changed BG with more photos and hazed it up
-simplified the back little town and integrated by adding colors and details
-used pics for the waterfalls, but still not quite there with those
-framed shot a little bit with the Fg foliage
Still got some rough paints in there, mostly around the towers that still need attention.
Any suggestions on a good way to paint in light on the tops and sides of my mountains and maybe what to do with that kind of open spot in the center bottom?
Again, thanks for all the help!

I think this is already looking superb, well done on a great effort. If I was going to offer any comments for improving it I would have to say just check your light source and direction as to me there seems to be light in areas and from angles that there perhaps wouldn't be. I could be wrong though and apart from that eveything else fits together perfectly.
Once again though, great job. This one really captures the imagination and isn't that what its all about?
