View Full Version : Lunchtime, Massimo Righi (3D)
06-20-2007, 05:57 PM
Name: Massimo Righi
Software: Maya, mental ray
I' ve always been fascinated by giraffes. After many angle view tests I went for this one. Hope you like it!
Modeled with Maya 8.0, rendered with MentalRay.The fur is polygonal (no Maya fur) I used HRDI/FG and Dof. The background is a photo taken during a recent trip to Borneo and it's been rendered within Maya. No Postwork, only contrast and color gamma enhancement with Photoshop.
Thanks for viewing:)

Great! ... it seems that the light on the giraffe is coming from the oposite side than in the photo... perhaps there's a tree near proyecting some shadows....

Very nice work man...;)I like it.

I really like it. looks good, very good textures/hair, maybe you could put more light in the eyes? good job!

If the depth blur is already present on the top of the head, then the bg should be even fuzzier due to the exponential value of dof. Your modeling is nice, maybe you should review the symmetric aspect of the textures around the neck. Keep it up !!

Incredible realism! The way you captured the hair and fur is awesome. Perhaps the only thing I found odd that wasn't already previously mentioned is the halo or glow around the plant in his mouth.

looks so nice...
07-06-2007, 11:09 AM
That's awesome I love how the fur is seperated on the animal so it doesn't look like it's just some rubbishy texture, good work!
07-06-2007, 02:49 PM
I love the giraffe it looks so real but the leafs look wierd (what his eating) they look as though they dont blend in)

Bč...onestamente la gallery di cgtalk la meritavi molto prima con i tuoi precedenti lavori...finalmente hanno aperto gli occhi e visto il tuo talento, e lasciamelo dire....era ora!
Nice modelling texturing and fur :) 5 star for you

As i sad its very nice could you describe in a bit more detail how you created the fur? Is it projection or textured poligons displaced? i cant imagine you adjusting CV-s with hand.
07-11-2007, 01:42 AM
looks good, but i think that the lighting on the giraffe doesn't quite match the lighting in the back ground. also, is the head out of proportion with the neck a little? other than that, it looks great!
07-13-2007, 11:55 AM
Hehe nice.. =)
07-13-2007, 03:59 PM
Could we see some wires please? :)
07-17-2007, 10:28 AM
great work as always!
5* for me ;)
07-17-2007, 06:39 PM
But I think leaves are too much blured. :)
07-17-2007, 08:10 PM
Amazing work, but I'm not feeling the plant in his mouth.. It's got a funny rim around it that really draws my eye.
That's just me nitpicking, it's still very very well done, but I thought I'd add the crit as well as the comment !

Great Job! Giraffe prefer acacia in the wild, but in Michigan they love maple browse and queen anne's lace! ;)
07-21-2007, 04:03 AM
Excellent work. Really believeble.
I have to do my best to learn from others.
07-22-2007, 11:05 AM
and the first thing that comes to mind when i see this picture? "And i will eat all the leaves off this tree, so that when there will be no leaves to eat, and some giraffes will die"... gotta love eddie izzard lol... and this pic! great work. i agree about the plant though, it wasn't as believable as the animal itself. it's still really well done
07-24-2007, 06:16 AM

This giraffe reminds me one of my friend: Fabio.
He is really handsome with long eyelash and he is quiet.
