Do you have access to a compositing program such as After Effects or Combustion? Usually these effects are much easier to do in post and you have a great deal more control over them. In my dealings the post things that are applied inside max generally don't have much functionality to them, but don't quote me on that ;) I'm sure someone knows how to rock them :)

hany_land, you could use Afterburn. It's awesome on doing voulumetrics inside of max. You can do explosions, clouds, rocket exaust, and pretty much any other volumetric effect you can think of.

I've done glow on particles, but not behind them. I don't know how to do that.

I think it might solve your problem if you would not use the object ID to make particles glow, but the material ID. This works with glow in mirrors, so maybe with this as well.

I know that that is the problem, have you tried what I said to solve it? There is a good change that it actually might.

"tray it" What does that mean.
Anyway: if this didn't work, then I do not know the solution either.

You can't solve this problem. It is a image post production. The object may not stand behind any other object. 3Ds Max thinks that the object is behind an object (the particle system)

You can artificially solve it by rendering the bal to an extra file and using that in de post production program like After Effects, but that's not really the solution of course.
try it in video post just make sure you place it the tree properly.
