This is still early on but I wanted to post it here.
I have problems with the smoothing groups cause I don't know much about them.

It's heavy at 1590 polys right now, but I am rendering out to a 2d engine where too much detail will lost when in the game. So I'm going for about 4K or so polys.

C&C welcome. :insane:

Hey, looks good so far.
Assign a Smooth modifier( assuming you use MAX) to the whole mesh with 180 degrees smoothing. Then apply additional Smooth mods at polygon level. The outer rim of your polygon selections will get a sharp edge.

Keep going!

Cool, thanks rivendale. :applause: That made a difference. Here's the update on the legs. I will continue working on the model later (work sux, no time to model).

It's been a while but here is an update, I haven't been able to get anything done lately on this character....maybe this will re-surface this thread.

The head I will come soon, ivo, I'm still working my way up as I can. Hope you guys like it so far!

C&C welcome, and apreciated

Niiice! Insane modelling skills.. I love the hand!

Do you use smoothgroups to get those sharp edges?

Keep up the good work mate!
Cheers

Woa, looking great there. Looking forward to the final project. Maybe the chest area is a bit too wide, you might want to take a look at it. Make sure you don't mess up the head ;) Keep it up!

Thanks, guys. I really appreciated it. Boosts my morale and makes me wanna make more time to devote to this project.

CgMonkey: Yeah, the smooth modifier didn't work so great so I did it on the sub-object level. I think there's much more control that way.

JBoskma: Where excalty is the chest too wide? but do keep in mind he's got a thick, tactical vest on. This will make the torso wider all over. And I definatly don't plan on messing up the head :D .

Thanks again.

Ok here's an update...been sometime since I worked on this ( hate having a job...why can't I just stay home and push polys all day?) He's almost done... he still needs all his gear. Added some better lighting too thanks to a MAXScript I downloaded.

Crits welcome as always.

His proportions look a little... off. Maybe the legs are a bit too long?(the knees stand out to me...) You should post a wire and a profile shot.

:hmm: Hmm...I had to make the legs longer cause it didn't look right shorter to me.
Could it be the waist line is too high??
I'll try to smooth out the knees a bit so they don't stand out so much.
Thanks TW
Here are the wire and profiles.

I think the waistline is fine. Also, your foot should be roughly the length of your forearm, I think the feets are a little small.

nice mesh BTW.
