hi there!
maybe my question will sound stupid to you... but! i was asked by an advertising agency if i can learn their 3 workers to use cinema4d and some basic 3d theory. ive created many tv spots, 3d visualisations and other stuff with cinema4d so i guess im good enough to do for them some learning courses. a specially when the agency found me and asked for it...

my question is... for how much should i ask? i mean... should i get 200$ for lesson... or 1$... or 1000$ ;).

i know what are the prices for animating/lighting/post-production etc... but training!? HELP!!! :)

thanks,
v.

For the recent job teaching workshops that i did, I got $50 Canadian dollars per 75 minute workshop, 20 workshops total in two weeks, so thats $1000 total for two weeks work. One thing you may want to take into consideration though is how many people you are teaching in each workshop, and how much work preparing for them you will put in. Personally teaching 20 students on average, I wish I had charged a little more, as well as putting in a couple hours preperation. So the next time I do it, I won't hesitate to request a little more. I should add that I was teaching these workshops at an arts highschool, if its people at a studio I would likely add more onto the price as well.

Hi V.,

Check out the website of the French C4D-distributor:

http://www.mediaworks.fr

In case french is a problem: they have a maximum of 6 training days. The first three are about the standard package (r8), the next three cover the modules.

They allow a maximum of six people at once, and each person has to pay €457,35 for each day of training.

This should give you an idea of how much things cost. To compare it with Kaiskai: he charged them $1000 for the whole group for 3 fulltime training days. With mediaworks' system, it would have cost them €1370,- PER PERSON.

B.T.W.: if you train them at their own facility, you have to lower your prices, 'cause you can't charge them for using your computers and your infrastructure. Of course, you can charge them for your transportation costs.

B.T.W. 2: Alias Wavefront charges about €500,- per person per day for an entry-level Maya training (not on-site, in their own training facility - on-site is more expensive). The price only goes up when you dive into the more complex stuff.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!

In the UK we charge £350 per person, per day + VAT, although training multiple people for multiple days will give them a lower rate which is usually negotiated.

Just like quoting for 3D work, make sure you do not sell yourself short. Never accept lower rates for first time clients or "to see how it goes" If they do want more training, they'll expect the same rates.
