View Full Version : Jiggle disk cache trouble

I have a character with rig and all imported as a reference in my scenes. The geo has a jiggle-deformer attached to get some secondary action. I also use character sets with subcharacters.

Every time I open one of my scenes the rig is in the neutral pose in origo, as in the original scene file, and I have to hit rewind to get it to update the first keyframes. I have tracked that problem down to the character sets and that is not much of an issue as long as you remember to keyframe every changes you do.

Now to the real problem:
Since the rig is in origo it has to travel the distance from origo to the position where the first keyframe is. The jiggle makes the geo recoil around frame 3 and bounces all around the place. When it settles it is slightly deformed and does not pop back in shape. This only happens because of the tiny timespan from when the scene is opened and frame 0. It would not be a problem if I didn't have to batch render from the command prompt.

I have tried to do a jiggle disk cache but I just can't get the batch renderer to use it. It renders just the same with or without cache... And documentation does not help me out here, so anyone with jiggle-experience?

the only experience i had with the jiggle is that is makes a lot of problems..

usualy i used springs instead to drive a cluster.. like in the way the "pod" racer is rigged on highende3d in the tutorial.
that one workes much more reliable for me

cheers

Graf Orlok-
Do you have namespaces in the path to your cache file? That can cause problems. Also if your cache file is on the network try using UNC path names.

A jiggle deformer is a softbody with springs. A/w just made it simpler to use with one command.

beaker: havent they taken out the cache file bug of the jiggle in 4.5? thought so

and i always got way better results when i did jiggles with springs by hand than with the jiggle deformer.. no idea why.. :)

cheers

Our backup routines doesn't allow namespaces so we use underscore instead. But that should work, don't you think?

The cache is on the network and has to be since we will be network rendering later on. I'm not aware of the term "UNC". Please enlighten me!

UNC(Universal Naming Convention) paths are when you point to anything on the network with a path of: \\Servername\share\path\to\file.jpg rather than a lame drive letters. That way you never have to worry about proper driver letters being mounted when your rendering. Especially when your working in a multiplatform environment or just when people like to mount network drives as different letters on different machines. In windows go through the network neighborhood to point to the files instead of a mounted drive or just manually change the paths in an ascii file with a simple script.

OK, I know what you mean. But we have a strict policy here about what drive letter to use for that particular server, so that should work too.

But just to be sure I'll try hack the ascii file and change the path name. Thanks Beaker.
