To the point - Blends applied in Layer Styles revert to Normal blend after I reload images.

Specificaly - I apply inner/outer glows - then apply a blend mode and save file.
I open the file and see the blend is dull. I click on the Effects layer and see the Blend function has returned to Normal. :scream:

I'm using CS2 and soon CS3 and I'm having a devil of a time with getting blend modes to stay as I save them. Is this is a major bug as it happens on two installs I have.

I tried changing my File Handeling in preferences. I switched "Maximize PSD and PSB File Compatability" to Never and hoping to rule out older version compatibility issues and that doesn't help.

Help!! - As this is really a production killer. Reloading approved files requires me to go through various layers re-enabling the proper Blend modes.

After more testing I found out it is a bug using "Hard Mix" blending.
I've been using it for some high contrast blending lately for our promotional content. Well not anymore. In the meantime I'm going to multiply surface effects layers to achieve more or less the same result.

After more testing I found out it is a bug using "Hard Mix" blending.

I did the following with a few files; I set the blending mode of a layer to hard mix, closed the file and reopened it and it was still set to Hard Mix, so I don't see any bug. Maybe it's a Mac specific problem, because I'm on XP. Have you tried resetting the preference file or reinstalling Photoshop?

I am using XP Pro and the bug is consistantly repeatable.

Its a Hard Mix blend on an Outer Glow.
It doesn't appear on other effects elements.

Not really an issue now as I can sub or duplicate layers to achieve the same effect.

See attached image.

Ok, now I do have the same problem like you Rich when I use CS2; I set the Outer Glow to Hard Mix, save the file, reopen it and then it's back to Screen, so it's most definitely a bug.

However CS2 seems to save the file properly, because it's still set to Hard Mix when I open the same file in the new CS3, so I guess that's the good news. ;)

ah, don't need to do that
I found the same error, maybe called a bug

you can use CS3 or create Layer for the Style FX
