I have downloaded and followed this tutorial (third image from the top):

Steam Train Tutorial (478k ZIP) by Gerardo Garcia

http://www.3dlinks.com/oldsite/tutorials_max.cfm (http://www.3dlinks.com/oldsite/tutorials_max.cfm)

This is a simple tutorial to simulate the pistons, the connecting rod and the crank of a Steam Train, without IK; instead, here is used just the LinkInfo parameters, and LookAt controller for the connecting rod.

The tutorial is OK, but, beyond the simulation of the pistons, I want be able to move all the object at same time to simulate the movement of the train over rails.

Thus, I have grouped all the objects (also the two dummies), but when I try to move the group, the Dummy02 (that have only LinkInfo> Inherit> Move> X axis checked) doesn’t move at all under Z and Y axis! Only the other objects move correctly!
I said this because I want simulate also the movement of one train over mountains, with the little change of the altitude, trajectory in curves, etc… therefore I want be able to move all the objects in all directions!

How can I do to move all the object without restrictions?

Please response me!
This is urgent!
Thanks!

Horsepower.

I have sent one email to Gerardo Garcia but the address appears incorrect:
Gerardo.Garcia@gene.GE.com

Someone know it (for support)?
-------------------------------
I have also tried this:
I have linked Dummy01 to Cylinder01; in this manner the dummy01 rotate at same time of Cylinder01, with local position offset.
After, I have tried with WireParameters>Parameter Wire Dialog:
Dummy01:X_Position --> Dummy02:X_Position

This doesn't function: the Dummy02 match the position of Dummy01 for the first frame, but, during the animation, it doesn't follow the movement along X axis of Dummy01 !

Why?

I think that this happens because Dummy01 is linked to Cylinder01, so the Dummy01 appears as it doens't have any movement along X axis !

Pleeease help me!

Anyone know another good Steam Train Tutorial???
