Is it possible to show the transparency of the shader in the viewport with maya? If so, how does one go about making it happen? The help files are pretty much useless. I've tried searching with the word transparency and it says it can't find any reference to the word. LIKE WASSUP WI DAT?!?!?!

Do you mean mapped transparencies?
Or just bump up the transparancy slider?
Cause if it's mapped, I think you are out of luck.

It will show up interactively in the Hypershader and the Multilister. But that doesn't do much for you in the viewport.

You can display mapped transparencies in the viewport using 32bit TGA files. In photoshop, make your background layer into a layer and delete or erase the area you want to be transparent and save your image as a 32bit tga. The transparent area will show up as a checkerboard in PS. When you apply this image in maya to the color, it connects it to the transparency as well automatically.

There may be differences between graphics cards since it is a hardware issue - I know it works with a geforce 4600.
