Salam (in english .. HI)
This is my first walk cycle. I did a tutorial first and followed all the steps exactly as told.
That wouldn't have been my own walk cycle :D. So I did another walk cycle with a different rig using the knowledge gained from the tutorial and here it is.

Please critique coz I really wanna get better at this. I made 2 more videos (one from front and the other in perspective) but they haven't been processed yet. I dont know why... its been almost 20 hours since I uploaded them.
One question though, in the tutorial the guy made the walk cycle without displacing the character itself. Instead he made the walk cycle with the character standing in the same spot and after the cycle was complete he moved the global control of the character to translate the character forward. When I attempted that with this walk cycle I couldn't pull it off and the character's feet seemed to slide alot. At this I deleted all the keyframed for the feet and redid them this time translating the character forward as I animated and now the feet stick to the ground properly and don't slide. The question is :
"What is better ? The method in the tutorial or the method I used later on ?"
Thank you.

Jariullah,

Good start man. It's actually working already. You just need to clean some bits up and make sure everything is smooth and silky. The main thing you need to do is make sure the
body translation - the forwards movement of the character is constaint. Right now he's moving then slowing down - moving then slowing - with each step. Watch someone walking - do a search on youtube or better yet have your brother/sister or someone walk back and forth. REALLY LOOK at them walking - its a smooth and silky motion. A walk should never look jerky unless your working that into the performance for a story reason or because of an acting choice. For a generic walk of this sort - it should be seemless and fluid.

I gave another buddy of mine on the boards some help on his walk back when. You should take a look at his walk - and the notes we shared with each other. I felt that his walk improved ALOT from the feedback! Especially the bits regarding the feet - arms - hips - and shoulders. Take a look. http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=476232

Good luck man - post updates for us. Keep at it - it takes alot of practice but once you get it... it hits the spot! Laterz~ -daviD
