hi folks

I have a shot where a plane plows through a snow bank and knocks all the snow onto the ground. I've worked on it a bit already, using diferent sized particles(cloud) and i have the behaviour working. But i'm having trouble with how the particles look - they all look like cotton balls. =\

i mixed up the size and density, blob map and roundess of the different cloud particles and it looks good when tehy are all close together. but once they start speeding up and spreading out from the collision you can see the individual particles that look like cotton balls =\

does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get each particle to have a more organic/non-spherical shape?

or if you guys have a better way of making clumpy/heavy snow?

i'm a newbie in cgtalk and with dynamics so i hope i'm making some sense in this post..

Thanks a lot!

i would use different particle systems.
sprites or textures mapped on planes (instances) and for farther away stuff cloud.
layer them etc.
