Hello, all:

Here's a first post for me to this forum. Part of a challenge to create a "Weird Hat" based on the personality of a fellow 3d artist. The young gentleman in question is a Blender user, and a big Star Wars fan.

Done in Blender 2.26, scanline render, on MacOS 10.2.4, no post-processing.

Feedback welcomed!

It's ok but when I looked at the picture I didn't feel that the hat belonged in that scene maybe it's the lighting I don't know (I'm sure someone will pick it out sooner or later) But thats my opinion, very good so far. Try to get better at rendering:thumbsup:

its the DOF or your photoshoped back ground. is way to blurry. because the hat is totally in focus and thne you switch to total blur.

also the colors dont blend well its generally not goot to switch between purple and the redish browish stuff in the back ground. a dark undersaturated back ground would look better.

Thanks for the advice!

The image above reflects some changes made. Most notably:

1) changed background image to be much less blurred, and darker colored to avoid a too-stark contrast.

2) Fixed some of the UV stretching on the hat.

3) Rendered with a touch of GI to soften some shadows and angles.

4) Improved the edge roll on the brim to show more depth of the fabric (Thanks Chaos!).

Thanks for the feedback! Anyone else?

Hey, i like the idea.

The biggest improvment i think you could do now is to give some depth to the brim. it looks like a plane and i think some depth and a curved edge will give it more realism

_____) <---you know, somthing like that

also, the light from the windows looks like its from more than one source. The lighs which show up on the granite are 'cross eyed'. Its subtl but it looks a little strange

have fun with it, good luck
