View Full Version : Is it just me...
lragno 03-18-2003, 06:50 PM I am completely baffled. After having spoken to Discreet tech support, my reseller and after going to as many support web-sites as possible, I still cant install freakin' 3ds max 5.1.
Here are my specs:
Dell 450 precision- dual 2.4, 1g RAM, win XP pro, no anti-virus software running, logged in with admin privs, no other app running....
Here's the error:
error: 1335. "3dsmaxSetup2.cab is corrupt".
Am I the only person in the wolrd that has gotten this error? If not, please help! Major project due soon!

Hmmm...that is baffling!
Didn't discreet or your reseller offer to send/give you a disc with a clean copy of the 5.1 update? Did you try re-downloading the update since perhaps the original download became corrupt?
Do you really need the 5.1 update to finish your project? max 5 should be just fine and if you started the project prior to 5.1 then you don't really need 5.1 to finish it do you?

actually I'm trying to install a new 5.1 version of max, not an update....

Okay, then send your 5.1 max discs back to discreet or your reseller and get another set. If you've paid that kind of money then a having a corrupt disc is not acceptable.
Good luck.

I doubt it's a corrupt disc.
I even tried to install a demo disc of max 5 and still got the same error.
Also, copied all Max 5.1 cd contents to my local drive and tried installing from there - same error!
i'd get dell diagnostics on it...mebbe dicky ram or drive or something, cd drive mebbe...i've had exactly the same problem and it turned out to be a bad ram module...i guess the ram was corrupting the info as it was read off the disc.
try installing the demo version from discreet which can be ordered, then u can rule out the cd itself :)

Dude, take it back and get another software set. I and many, many other max users haven't any problems installing the app. It definitely sounds like a corrupt file on the disc when it got burned through the 'assembly line'. You even say that was the error message. It happens some times. I bet you a replacement disc will solve the problem.
I am sure your reseller could even loan you a 'test' CD of max to see if it fixes the problem. I've got nothing but great support from both my authorized dealer and discreet.
That's it from me. You're on your own now...

UPDATE: to others with who might have this prob.
Well, I've definately ruled out the CD as a problem: took the same cd onto another machine (running win2000) and it isntalled fine.
Talked to dell support, had me go testing ram module by ram module- turned out fine.
Right now running full system diagnostics, after running into major problems re-installing XP (max reseller suggestion). Dell is sending factory re-installation cds.
If this fails, I guess I'll swap the system. Gonna be down for 2 weeks. :annoyed:
this really sucks. I cant just yet blame Dell, beacuse I'm not sure its their fault, but its looking like it.

:wip: but I was getting this error on trying to install most programs, it drove me crazy. So I went into my bios and changed the CAS latency from 2.5 to 2.0 and I also changed the memory from 133 to 100 and that helped so much, things ran so much smoothly. Now all I'm saying is maybe that's a place to start to look. Maybe something is screwy in your bios
I hope you find your solution soon.

UPDATE - for those who care....
Well, just got my replacement pc from dell. Everything works great. I guess it was the hardware. Maybe something with the Ram Modules.
To Dell's credit, they gave me a good discount and the turnaround was quick.
