View Full Version : new benchmark results
just for info. I've just posted the first benchmark results for an 8-core macpro at http://eias.groothuis.com/ . Quite fast, but I expect there's a bit more to come with a bit of tweaking.

Whoa! 19 seconds?
Is that done with a stopwatch from clicking "go"?

Yup, that's what I did. One thing to watch while doing this is that the first time you render in this way, using renderama, it takes some time (another 20 sec?) to copy over the models and textures to the 8 slave cameras before they start rendering. Subsequent renders just use these already copied files and so go through the render sequence faster. The 19 second time is for one of these subsequent renders that uses the pre-copied model/texture files.
I've done a few more experiments varying the number of cameras from 1 to 16 and also varying the number of slices from 1 to 16 (in reasonable combinations - obviously there's no point having 8 cameras and only 4 slices). The 8 camera and 8 slices option was the fastest for both these projects.
