View Full Version : Faces
jtlloyd 03-18-2003, 05:53 PM I have created a complex object out of lines and arcs. What would be the best way to add faces to the object now?

id skin it. or add an edit mesh.

Everything I do just makes the object invisible. Here is an image of the splines forming the object. It is all welded together to create 1 object.
So is this the wrong way to go about it. If so, from what you see. What do you think is the best way to model this?

You can apply the CrossSection modifier and than the Surface modifier.
thatīs what I would do! :-)
I hope I helped!

Ahhh, looks like you're coming along with that ring-- really what you need here would be to make the thing a NURBS object, but the NURBS in MAX stink royally, so don't bother.
The Surface modifier is probably your best bet in this case-- find all the vertexes of that ring, and make more splines to connect them together around the band of it... they'll be kinda rectangle shaped, it looks like-- you can change the vertexes to Smooth if you want the cross section of the band to be oval. This can be kinda tricky since the vertexes will be lying in the same space of ones you don't want to change.
What you want to do is make sure the form is divided up into a spline cage-- every 3 or 4-sided shape will be covered by a patch of mesh when the Surface modifier is applied.
Otherwise, yes, if you just try to convert the thing to a mesh, it'll disappear, because there's no information for any kind of surface, and splines get thrown out.
