Salome, who danced in front of King Herodes and received the head of St. John the Baptist on a silver plate, was regarded one of the most wicked women in history.

And this is how she died, according to the old legend. One day, she was dancing on a frozen pond when the ice broke and she fell into the water. Eventually, the sharp ice fragments would cut her neck and severe her head from her body. So she died the same way like the man whom she had brought to death; and not even her mother Herodias was able to save her.

Photoshop 7 and Aiptek tablet.
Reference used: A photo of my friend posing for Herodias. Photos of my own face, for the sea demons. No reference used on Salome.

This is fantastic work...on a grand scale. Nicely done.

Also, semi-joking comment: your signature is too big -- it distracts from the otherwise great piece of work.

Hey Maidith,

I think you illustrated the drama of Salome really well.
I am happy you didn't draw her getting her head cut off by the ice ;)

The compsition is awesome. So are Herodias expression, the sea demons, the cloth and the enviroment (Ice, plants).

Though there are some things which are a bit destracting:

- The legs of Salome seem too big. They need to be thinner and smaller in general.
- Salomes left hand looks a bit strange, I didn't notice that at first sight, but imo the forearm is a bit too short.
- As Salome is supposed to be under water esp. her upper body is too saturated so I don't discover the feeling of Salome being under water.
- Last but not least the bigger of the two fishes conveys some kind of comic style, which I think wasn't your true intention. Maybe change its eye to be a bit smaller.

Hope you don't mind pointing these things out.
In general its really a wonderful piece of art.
4 stars for you!

Wow very nice. I agree with -frameless- though. Her leg is way too big, but other than that, this image looks amazing.

This is a fantastic piece, and the dream-like quality of the lighting and so forth gives it the feel of a legend as well.
