View Full Version : Help! Can't open recovered RIF

So Painter X decided to crash while I was in the middle of something.

It gives me a warning saying it's going to crash, and it'll save a backup of the file in documents/recovered. So I go to find it, it's a lame RIF file (I work with PSD in Painter because of RIF's history of corruption. It's just a poor file format.)

Anyways, it won't open at all. It tells me, "Insufficient memory" bla bla bla. 2GB. Plenty of memory. It's a relatively small file, too. 7MB.

How can I open this? This has happened before where it crashed, it "saved" a copy, and it would not open so I had to redo everything.

Thanks in advance.

If Painter would save a backup as a PSD I think this problem wouldn't be happening.

Hi,

just to say that one day the same thing happened to me. I was so f***ing pissed off, because i "lost" one important work. Motherf***ing Corel. They need to fix that bug!

If you have an old backup of the file you can get it up to date if Painter saved the script, you'll only have to open that file and check the scripts and play it.

Working in Painter is really hazardous, everything can and will happen so save often and save on multiple copies I usually save two, one of these is also open in Photoshop.

The script thing doesn't work because of many reasons.

It never gets it back into the same shape it originally was, because the scripts usually begin from the beginning of work, not from the last known save.

I save in PSD only because RIF is garbage. I wish the backups would be saved as a PSD or layered TIF.

And I do save many copies, usually iterative saves.
