View Full Version : sideways textures
bonestructure 06-08-2007, 07:38 PM I'm having some problems with my current WIP. Sorry, no sampke images. I'm basically making an l shaped compund with the main focus on the image the house that faces the camera. on the left side pf the screen are teo buildings you only see the faces of, runnin at a right angle from the main building. You basically only see the fronts of the building. They are, of course, foreshortened beause of the viewing angle. The problem is, the textures are blurry on them, or seem blurred. Due to the foreshortening? I'm using app 1200 by 1200 textures, so they're not low rez. Is this something that just happens, and is there a way to sharpen them up? I do use supersampling on the final render (Max). I have Nik sharpener that I use to sharpen images for textures, but I don't want to sharpen too far because that leads to problems too. Any solutions for this?

'texture filtering' should help with any textures loosing detail at a distance
are you using any other filtering for AA?

Well, I started using Catmull Rom to antialias, and that helps a lot, though the bump map still doesn't show up much

Try changing your filtering from pyramidal to summed area in your texturemaps, see if that helps.
From my person experience, max's scanline renderer generally does a poor job at this sort of thing, which is one of the reasons I use a different renderer (brazil, in my case). So if the filtering thing doesn't help, you may consider trying a different renderer that does a better job of filtering and antialiasing.
