View Full Version : about them quadro cards...
Ive got a quadro4 700xgl (not the most expensive in the quadro range) and although its a nice card its not really the "science fiction" card i was hoping for. And the thing is, a long time ago i had a "fire gl-whatevercard" (cant remember now) at my old job and it was just the same. it was supposed to be the best card of its time, but it was just allright.
And im wondering if im misconfigured, or if im just very spoiled nowadays? or is it the the q4-700 is an oem card?
any one else with a quadro? What do you think?

I have no experience with the Quadro cards. Just to get that out of the way :) So my question is just to clarify so others can hopefully jump in and help:
Are you using the.. the.. MAXExtreme drivers I think they're called? Those Quadro specific drivers that, apparently, "makes MAX go supar fast!!1".
yep im using the maxtreme drivers.
And they DO make a difference.
But its still not "holy shit!!!" material...

you might just be expecting too much,
and btw - if you searched long enough, you may just find a way to turn your g4 into a quadro
:D
Yeah, like i said. im spoiled. Technology moves so fast one comes to expect everything to be hurricanestrong and lightningfast.
I was just wondering if my settings were wrong somehow.
Maybe theyre fine. Im not really complaining, its just all theese "its SUUUUPERFAST!" outcries which makes me wonder.

I suppose you are just expecting too much.
And anyway: it is only the fourth card in the quadro-line up today. The Quadro FX 2000, Quadro FX 1000 and Quadro 900 are all faster, so you do not have the top of the league anyway.
oh, like i didnt know that? just rub it in a bit more will ya? ;)
Besides i never thought it was the best card (wasnt even when i bought it). Nevermind. ive got a lots of crayons.

hey, i have the same card as you. Its not the fastest thing that exists, but i havent gotten thoes maxextreem drivers, im going to look around for them and see if it is hugeley faster.
ill report back when i know, but i have seen some benches for this card and they look pretty good, what are you running other than the video card
me, dell worksatation, 1.5 ghz and 512 meg rdram, also im pushing the card a little with a second monitor

i cant play with it too much now, but i didnt see some magical difference from before, but the antialising looked a little worse. not sure if that was an illusion or not. im not sure.
i saw a big difference when i went from software to open gl, tell me what you think.
thanks

I've got a quadro 900 and I've noticed some sluggish performance in Max 4.2. I don't have the Max extreme drivers so I'm going to try those out. But, I have a 2.4 GHz machine with 512 ram and 2 monitors. The scene I have is very simple: one character, a ground plane and 2 lights and it drops frames on a 150 frame animation in shaded view. Maybe it will be better with those drivers.
I don't know if it's related, but I can't do the "make preview" function without crashing Max completely. It completely freezes my system. Anyone else have this problem?

This is probably off topic, but when i use my NVIDIA TNT OpenGL driver in max and select a vertex it crashes can anyone tell me why this happens, im using max 4.2.
