Hi All,

Just stumbled across this at theonering.net: (please disregard if this is old news!)

The Chronicles of Narnia: Doug Gresham, the step-son of C.S. Lewis gave a lecture last night and 'Jon' was in attendance: "He was asked what his opinion was of the forthcoming live-action Narnia movies. He said "I rather think they are going to be great... since it was my idea." He said that he had just inked the deal that morning to give a green light for production but didn't want to reveal studio names as "that would all come out in the press soon." He said that he would be co-producing it and Andrew Adamson would be directing. His main goal was that the special effects would not be the star of the show but instead, it would be his father's story. 'Never change the words of the master'". 'Lord of the Rings' tool/FX makers Weta have the contract to handle the film's technical elements whilst Andrew Adamson ("Shrek") will direct with a mid-2004 release planned.
I just KNEW this was coming after the immense success of the LOTR movies.
The C.S. Lewis books are just asking to be made in the same vain of the LOTR films.
It should be incredible!

I have been waiting to see these made into movies since I first read the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when I was 6. Now that they're actually coming out, I'm terrifed to see them. I almost wish they weren't made so that they don't get them wrong. I'm sure Weta will do an amazing job, but it bothers me a bit that they're taking an animation director and giving him a literary classic for his first live action feature. Maybe I'm just nervous after what Simon Wells did to The Time Machine.

Well, I was sure as heck terrified to see LOTR... and in the end I just plain DIDN'T because I know they screwed them up.... but this ought to be interesting!! I don't know anything about the director, but I'm sure as heck going to be listening on this one.

There has already been a live-action form of the Chronicles of Narnia-- I think it was made by the BBC, and aired on PBS some years ago. Tom Baker played Puddleglump! The FX were dreadful (especially the icky animatronic Aslan), and the actors weren't terribly great, but it was charming...

Well wasn't Stuart Little the first live action film of Rob Minkoff? So I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I thought it was going to be an all CG movie when I've heard a year or so that they were trying to do it again. Actually the movie has been in the works for a long time, probably even before PJ got involved in LOTR.

ANyway it's good to hear that Weta will have something to do for next year.

Tooooo Sweeeet!

I loved what Weta did on LOTR, and I've been a massive fan of both Narnia and LOTR from when I was 5 or 6 on, and I can't think of anyone better to do Narnia. This is going to be sooo kewl, I can't wait.

Yeah, BBC did some of the Narnias, The Lion, Witch and The Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Chair. The acting and effects were very bad, but they were still fun to watch.

Man, I'm going to be smiling all day just thinking about Narnia movies and knowing that they will probably be pretty good if Weta's doing it. So Kewl :airguitar

It'll be wicked! we could be waiting a while though - few weeks ago one of the Weta guys came round & said they had been all called together for a big meeting, asked what they thought about doing the Narnia chronicles (to which everyone was like "Hell Yeah!"). So the bosses asked them what they were planning on doing for the next four years:eek: perhaps they are planning on doing the whole lot back to back - it'd be one hell of a project!
