hi, i made some textures using sss, on single renders its fine, however when animated for some reason the texture flickers and i cant figure out why..

ive posted a video below so you can see what im talking about. you can see it mostly in the in the lower parts of the lats where they connect to the pelvis, and the skull.
at the end i increased the intensity of the light so you can see it clearer.

hello, Try deleting the textures on the parts that are flickering and try them again. I had the same problem in a small animation and it was just a bug in the texture. Also, you dont have two objects occupying he same space, right? that could also cause it, I think.

One more thing about the animation of it, you shouldn't let the arms snap like that, the bones never really go straight in line and snap back. let them go till they almost snap, then stop there. It'll just look more natural.

Hope this helps.

what you can do is add more lights to your scene. I seen a tutorial digital tutor that was discussing the same issue. The only thing they where using final gather, but give it a try see what happens.

TheGnomonWorkshop (http://thegnomonworkshop.com/tutorials.html) has some free AWESOME vid tuts. One of these vids (I think it was the subsurfacescatt SSS vid) covered this in particular.

MyMentalRay (http://www.mymentalray.com/mymr_tutorials/tutorials.htm) has several SSS tuts.

sorry i took so long on the reply, but you could put your mental ray texture writable height and width up to twice what you have and that should help you. Also that tutorial the other guy said is a great one to watch

If this is the extent of your scene (meaning that there isn't going to be anything else in it other than the character), you definitely do not need to be using final gathering. This very well could be what is causing the flickering that you are seeing. You would be much better off using a more traditional lighting setup such as a 3 point system with some modifications to meet your needs. Not only would this most likely fix your flickering issue, but it would give you much more control over how your image looked. Anyways, good luck in solving the issue.
