Here ist my idea for a new matte painting series of mine...
Global Warming & how neighborhood could look like if our environment starts to turn into a more uncomfortable place to live. This is the first initial sketch for now and I will soon start with my "first" blocking tries...
The place in the sketch once was fertile but since GW took place it became a desert. Nothing which abandoned on gasoline survived cause there is completely none left over... In times where it became more difficult to survive for individuals people gathered to form new communities. They did so using technologies which already were known as bio spheres.
...plz let me know what you think of it before I totally go the wrong way

I spend about half a day (4h) on this one and still am fiddling with the colour palette.
I started thinking about foto material and where to get some good Fotos from desert, sand & rocks. Well the problem is that I´m not living near any desert so I maybe look out for some stone pits around here http://www.mattepainting.org/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif hopefully this will work out.
Crits & comments are always welcomed

Great idea for a great start !!
when blocking stuff in, try to block in all of you elements as early as possible before starting to detail too much. That way you prevent from unbalancing you composition. !
Can't wait to see what's next !!

nice idea, just take care pf perspective and visual composition, I would move the focal node ( domes ) a little bit to the left, work with the Rule of Thirds rule for visual composition, you can check it out in the tutorials section

Thanks Jamesvfx, Yellowdog and Layer01... I really appreciate your comments !!! So I spend a little bit of time during the weekend blocking in some more elements. Also enlarged the canvas to the right side a bit to give the domes more room and I´m still picking on colours for a more impressive lightning.
But... you guys are totally right... the street pointing to the domes and the domes themselves don`t look like they are properly placed. So please let me know what u think about this little problem... I hardly can`t see it... maybe I spend to much time staring at the pic ;-)

So I spend another couple of hours finding the right balance and perspective in the image... those cars really gave me a headache but I think I got them in position now. Still picking on colours, but I think this will be a process until finishing this piece. Also moved the domes more to the left and now they look much better placed.
C+C welcomed as always...

Thx Kutkin for the comment... since these paintings are meant to be concept sketches I won`t use any photo references yet. Ther are at least another 2 ideas for this serie I will show up with soon and at the end I will pick one and hopefully transfer it to a photorealistic matte painting kind of thing :)
For this one I would call it done... well at least to 99% it shows the idea and transfers the mood quit well so I leave it for now and move on the my other ideas... if I choose this one to convert into a matte painting I surely will go on painting ;)

So here are the first few brush storkes on the second idea for the global warming concept sketch series. This one will be something like "where will you go on holidays in 2060".
I already included some of the elements like the huge afloating platforms on the left, some little tourist boats and the pike of the Gizeh pyramide. I`m not sure for now about the composition and maybe will still rearrange things... so let me know what U think of it ;)
