View Full Version : Trouble Installing Mental Ray

Ok so I just downloaded Mental Ray 1.5, the free version. I install the application and it registers the plugin twice. Both times linking to the same folder. In the script editor all that shows is this:

mental ray for Maya 1.5.1
mental ray: version 3.1.4.8, 22 Jan 2003
mental ray: compiled on: Windows_NT_4.0_x86

Then it locks up. I have no idea how to fix this. Anyone have any suggestions?

When I first installed mental ray every time I loaded the plugin manually It would start 2 instances of itself and then maya would crash whenever I tried to render.

I found that just by making sure the autoload plugin box is checked, then closing maya and restarting so maya loads the plugin instead of me doin it, it works fine.

Lemme know if this solves your problem

What version of maya are you running?

Nope didn't work :hmm: Now it froze when I opened it. I had to go and modify the configs to not load it on opening lol.

BTW I'm running maya unlimited 4.5. (Hurt the pocket book too lol, can't afford to buy newest Mental Ray so gotta get this to work if I want any kind of GI)
