custom splash screen for maya and MAYA 5 suggestions
may be in MAYA 6 ?)

I didnt like maya login .
there is 6 image mixtured transparently which 3 made in maya other 3 in LW and XSI.

1. [Maya Path]..bin\MayaRes.dll file and backup it as a copy.
2. Find Exescope demo programme on net.
2,5. Be sure Maya is closed exactly (check on taskbar. (how to see taskbar -> Ctrl+Shift+ESC))
3. Open dll file (original dll. where it has exactly in path).
4. find resource -> Bitmap -> MAYASTARTUPIMAGE.XPM
5. import this image. (pass warnings before dll changes so press all to OK )
6. voila.!



SUGGESTIONS ON MAYA 5

suggestion 1: that should be good to see thumbnail files for ma or mb. or any plugin ?

suggestion 2: the swatch(es) files like a thumbnail cant be in embeded in ma or mb file which re owns?

suggestion 3: undo option initially should be set to infinite.

suggestion 4: that was be good to see,operations history stored in the ma or mb file as construction history.
so after close computer we gotto forgot old returns to refine our work.

suggestion 5: mental ray can be a standart renderer.
suggestion 6: sometimes while looking shader library on the first ; maya hangs on for infinite . (%0 process)

suggestion 7: ma,mb,iff files shall be pretty to see their thumbnails in explorer. as well as in maya gui. that exceeds maya coding standarts ? so this cant be a standart for all OS.

And a Question : I think there is a real time renderer machines or external devices has

Yea, this was in Poweranimator and Studio over 8 years ago, no idea why we don't have it now.

You can't do it with a ma file because its just text, but I guess they might be able to with .mb, but why would you want to. File sizes would bloat really fast.

bad idea. Infinate undo causes lots of memory problems and ram usage is allready high enough(inifite will send it through the roof). Having it on finate at 100 operations is much better than infinate.

Just leave the history button on.

suggestion 5: mental ray can be a standart renderer.

The maya renderer will never dissapear. MR still only supports half maya's features and it costs money for network renderer. Maya renderer is free for unlimited lics.

I didnt mean constructio history storing.
I already know this. :}

I meant OPERATION history.
u know redo<->undo

I mean I wantto redo undo operations after I reopen scene

so construction history and "operations" history are different things.

In case anyone want's to know the Path for MayaStartupImage on OS X is

Root(volume)/Applications/Maya 4.5/Application Support/Icons/MayaStartupImage.xpm

I tried it, and I thought the side with Stahlberg's Stool Girl was pixelated, or kind of spotty. I could see little white dot's escaping through the background of the scene.

Speaking of mayares.dll... I recently bought (from the internet, so I can't go back to the shop and speak to a human) Maya 5 Unlimited. Now the bastarding thing is saying my mayares is corrupt. I have attempted to contact the company itself, and was rebuffed by the impenetrable automated call centre. I tried seeing if there was anywhere I could download the file, and found two websites. Both will make me pay. I felt that more money on top of the thousands I've already spent was a bit of a cheek - does anyone know anywhere I can get it for free, or have they the charity in their heart to send me a copy of their own?

Hoping, but not necessarily expecting, to hear from someone soonish.:)

My biggest problems with Maya is that with each new release the change some of the hotkeys (CTRL-W used to be the hotkey for the Lasso tool in 4.5, in 5.0 it wasn't set to anything, and now in Maya 6 it's set to the Soft Mod Tool). I would think Maya could keep something like this fairly consistent instead of causing a million headaches for users that rely on hotkeys.

Also, the Component editor runs very poorly in Maya 6 compared to Maya 5 and below. In Maya 6, a character with more than 5,000 vertices takes a long time to turn on "Hide Zero Columns", in Maya 5 it was almost instantaneous. Also, the Hide Zero Columns doesn't actually remove the columns from the Component Editor window, it just collapses their width to zero. If you take a mesh with Hide Zero Columns turn on you can grab the column edges and reveal the collapsed columns one by one. I believe this causes some of the speed issues because each of those column UI elements still exists and will still update along with all of the non-zero columns.

Hopefully Alias develops some consistency in their approach to fixing and adding to the broken features and leaving alone the features that work perfectly.
