View Full Version : Need little help for doing smoke

Here a rough sketch of what I want to do. For the character, isnt a problem, but I want put smoke from the ground when she shoot
Hope you understand me, Im not pretty good in english.
The smoke will be placed where are the red line and I want a movement effect, like she shoot since long time and the gun its very powerfull. Im looking for some tips or tutorial for do this.

If you're using Photoshop ...

On a new layer place a color at the source of the smoke using a brush slightly larger than the source object. Use the smudge tool at 25-35% strength to pull the color up in the direction you want the smoke to trail off. Add additional thickness to the smoke by going over areas with a smaller brush at 10-20% transparency. Remove excess by using the erasure set at 10-20% also.

This makes a very convincing cigarette-like smoke trail. If you want it thicker, just add more smoke and form simular to cumulous clouds. Thicker clouds of smoke will reflect light and cast shadows.
