View Full Version : How does Wings 3D rank?
Goatfuzz 03-17-2003, 11:04 PM Amongst the ever growing technologies and great programs of today, where would you place wings at? For being a free 3D program it works wonderfully especially on the simplicity side.
Not to let this become a "war of software," I just want to know how good wings really is?
-Also, could someone post some really nice wings pictures, please? :D

I place it at the top as a modeler. Though, you have to understand that I'm pretty biased. I've been using Wings for like, forever :). Wings is like any other tool, it takes talent and practice to get what you want out of it.
But, the methodology makes more sense to me. It's the way I learned.
As for pretty pictures, here are a couple of my own most recent works:

Not perfect, but Wings sure works for me. And don't forget, it's free. Never forget that (chuckle) little detail.

woa? You made killer bean? You modelled it with wings? I feel enlightened. Besides, who wants to use the over priced tools that act weird when you can use this wonderful package where the tools just jump into your hands?

Well, I'm not the original creator of Killer Bean, that would be Jeffery Lew (http://www.jefflew.com). This is just some fun KB fan art :)
VERY nice work Nervous_twitch! Those Max renders are gorgeous.

Great renders!
How does wings 3d rank? , better than most softwares I should say.
Most of the entries in last months challenge including the first prize winner model of King mob was modelled with wings.
And check out this months challenge one third of the entries are done with wings. I would say thats very impressive for an app that didnt even hit version 1 yet.

i've only used Wings a few weeks and it is a great little app.
now i wonder...any chance someone has built a UI bridge for rendering to a top of the line free Renderman compliant or similar free rendering engine yet?
i know squat about writing my own shaders. i just want to surface, light, point my camera and render.
granted i use LightWave like people breathe air...but hey...sometimes you gotta ask for the moon.
Wings ROCKS!

I second Ali!
Lets see... how does Wings3D rank?
As a low poly modeler it ranks right up on top in it's own unique way...
It's fun, it's easy to learn, and it really works well... I have managed to learn more about low poly modeling using Wings than I ever did attempting with any other package... all because it is so intuitive... and this is to me which counts the most at this stage of the game...
