Title: Journey to the West
Name: Trung Bui
Country: United States
Software: Photoshop

Cover for a story set in the Chinese fairytale of “Journey to the West”. A tale of revenge and repent. Just a short story I’m working on privately and very slowly as a line drawing graphic novel.

The costumes went through several evolutions before settling on the current state. A lot of the recent Monkey King appearance has been more human looking especially the recent tv show starring that pretty boy Dicky Cheung. After watching the Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes. I wanted the character to be more of an ape like rather than a chimpanzee like. The girl is based on a French actress name Mylene Jampanoi (see attached reference). Her character in the story is Chang'e aka Goddess of the Moon.

Hope everyone like it.

Nice work, some of the detail is great and i like the water.

Both of the characters torsos luck unfinished and not defined as well compared to the rest of their bodies.

I think the monkey/ape character is meant to be wearing chain/mail and gold armour?
It looks too much like the rest of his body (cloth looking)

Hehe i didnt mean it like that, what i meant was.

From the look of what your painted it looks like chainmail/scalemail and gold armour if so, It looks too much like the rest of his body (cloth looking) instead of looking metallic.

The head and the body of a girl looks like they are from two different paintings. That high detailed face and that undetailed, blurred costume. You really should finnish the costume of the girl- that would make this picture a very good one.

Also noticed a slight deformation on the girls arm, the forearm and wrist seem a little too chunky for the hands and shoulder area.

Dang it dude, you're the first person I ever met that looked at the image, critiqued it and 3 hours you came back with something else that doesn't looks right. You love my picture, you really love my picture.

Give me some love or a hug

Anyway, great point.

Haha, i really like the picture. You are very talented!

But its one of those things, giving praise doesnt improve your ability but a fresh pair of eyes giving criticism may see things you looked over and gets you that one step better :)

Dont let my comments de-motivate you in any way. I am only really trying to help you :D
