Very amusing. Nice sense of weight when the little bots are walking.
Place this scene in a larger animation and you'll have a winner.

Nice and cute animation. It's good to see that you can create a good animation with simple elements. Great rendering by the way. What software did you do this in? What renderer did you use?
Good work! :scream:

Very nice smooth animation. Even tho Models are simple you bring alot of character and life to them. Which is what makes good animation so special. It can breath life into anything.
Well done.

That was just plain cool-- but I had one problem with it. I had to watch it twice to figure out what the heck those explosions were. Maybe there should be a bit more delay before the recoil of the little cannons going off, so we can see better what's going on.

Same here, I had to watch it over again see what happened.. other than that it was excellent, good fluid motions in their walks.

Oh I like it :) Very simple and well done...the old man and his prop, except the prop was another man. But the animation was very good, I watched it I think 4 or 5 times in a row just watching the movement and enjoying the pacing.

Although its was very simple but still can see its really a good animation.....i like it much:applause:

I thought something looked vaguely familiar too but couldn't quite place it, maybe that's it. There are only so many ways you can make a little robot though  not implying anything.
Great work on the animation, very cool :)

It is really nice. However I don't think that last shot is really necessary at all. All of the action is finished and for seeminly no reason the one bot desides to fire at the ceiling?

The sound is what made it for me - they sounded like little metal balls - the sound can really take you into or out of a piece like that...

WOW! Thanks for all the replies! I wasn't expecting to get so many :) I've taken notes on the critiques. thank you very much for them.
I used Softimage XSI for everything, with mental ray as the renderer.
If anyone has any other questions please ask.....
I have updated the divx movie so it has the soundtrack now, sorry for the confusion.

It looks very nice...good job, the only crit I would have would be when the first robot is introduced, the secondary on his landing is a bit too extreme... it looks like he just landed on a spring. Aside from that, the rest is great, nice sense of timing. The last shot out is also a great touch...

No, it wasn't only you. It wasn't glaring or anything, more of an almost subliminal "huh..wha wuz that? oh look they're still walking, never mind".
I liked this clip. Simple, fun, entertaining. One area where you could make things read cleaner is that first set of cannon shots.
There's two shots at first. I never caught the red guy's shot in the air that drives him down into the blue guy until I frame stepped through it. To have that read you'll need to set it up with a good anticipation. Have the zenith of his arc slow out on top for more than the 4 frames you currently have there. If you can squash his body for a frame or two before the cannon fires as well that'd add additional anticipation for that quick series of actions. Also, the sound FX there only have one gun report when there's two shots fired. A double boo-BOOM report would help that, along with the longer anticipation on the red guy's upper arc. A good rule of thumb: the faster the action the greater the anticipation needed to sell it. Also, the weight 'bobble' of the red guy as he stops feels a bit forced, like he's moving himself that way rather than trying to control his own inertia. The place to fix that is the second forward lurch. It doesn't move forward of his hips enough to justify the second and third strong backward lunges.
Fun stuff, though. Very charming and overall well executed. The walks are good stuff, but as mentioned watch the right knee pop on the blue guy. It'll be fun to see more stuff from you. :)

Nice!
The personality of the figures is outstanding. I'm always impressed by how a simple figure can be given personality with some forethought, and this is a great example.
The sound work is very good, but there's a hiss over it. The ambience is excellent and definitely helps make the scene.
Gotta agree about the "bang" and the timing: a more obvious or prolonged effect might make it easier to understand.
Inspiring! I think I'm going to try to duplicate it as a learning experience. :-)

Thanks again for the compliments!
I have noticed the legs popping, now that you two mention it. There's that and the fact that the sound needs another shot. I thought maybe they were close enough together to be covered by one sound, but I guess not. Thanks for the input on the first shot and the bobble. That first jump in the air always looked weird to me, but I could never resovle it, thanks for the tips. And I've been told by many that the bobble just doesn't fit......I guess it's preference, upon completing the animation, I thought it fit well with the character's attitude, but now that I've seen it a million times and others have commented, I think it needs change.
There are more characters in this universe, and hopefully if time allows, I'll be able to throw out some more animations.
Thanks again for the crits and compliments!

Excellent!
The character animation stands out as top notch. Extremely well done. The pacing, the timing, everything is top notch.
I agree about the canon blast sounds... a little bit of distinction between the two simultaneous blasts would help a tad. But this doesn't detract at all away from the excellent animation you've done here.
Good job!

id have to say the concept isnt really there, it looks too similar to the Lots of Robots characters, but the renderings look great...

Everything is real good, but the shooting at the end isn't very clear. It took me a couple viewings to figure out what was going on. I think my biggest problem was that I thought the gun barrels were their eyes. Perhaps by adding something for them to see with, or putting one of those aiming notches above the gun barrel would help. Very good animation!

Nice animation of a classic gag!
One thought, how about if the light comes on the head of the one that fires, just after they bump together & a maybe little buzzer goes off as well then it fires, it'd give it a nice little beat in the anticipation that builds up before they bump?
Cheers,
Kieron
